3 tonso fun a nd I tore into a friends dana 60 to replace the king pin bearings and found out the reason why the bearing wore out in the first place was due to the fact that the part of the C where the bearing race seats was egg shaped. :dunno: I have no idea how this happened. My question for you guys is...Can we get an oversized bearing race to replace it after it has been line bored or something like that, or just replace the whole C itself? Of course both C's but if we do that, what brand do you guys think?

Just go orange if it's in the bank. IIRC C's are around $300/pair?

I don't believe money will be a problem with this guy, he just wants whatever is the best.
What about the Solids? Any one know anything about them.

to be honest, you ALWAYS hear of the knucle breaking and ending a weekend. You seldom hear of an inner C ending a trail weekend. I always wondered how you would break something like that, but that makes sense, egging the hole. maybe that's the reason my brand new rebuild kit in my kp's I put in are already trashed with proper preload set with washers under the arms :-\

Kelly if it was or is egg shaped you would have known it when you put the new race it. We had to grind for about two hours, putting the race in, then taking it back out to see if we had ground enough out yet. Every time we put it in, it would stop in the same place and make marks where it was hitting. So we would take it back out and grind some more where the spots were and try again. I'm not sure how long it's going to last like this but I guess we'll see. Just trying to get an idea of what our options are when that day comes.

na, it went in fine. Felt good. I would have noticed. I mean the fact that the last 3 times its been out its had some really bad throttle assults, 5 rollovers and 2 of them hard as fawk, bending wheels. I put it up on the lift and was like, hmmm, kingpins are out again, that's weird. maybe my c's are ****ed.

One reason we could tell it had a problem was that the tire was leaning outward a bit. We jacked the front end up and it had about 1/4"-3/8" of play at the top of the wheel. Alot of times whem the weight is off of the kingpin with as heavy a tire/wheel package that we run they will drop a little when jacked up off the ground. As long as there is no side to side play you should be okay.

I've got a kingpin issue on my passengerside rear. Bitch it leaning out at the top. I noticed it yesterday, ****!

I had the same problem with one of my inner C's. Tryed grinding the race, it eventually broke again . Go ahead and plan on ordering a set your going to have to any ways. Removing the existing inner C isn't that bad. Just set your self up a comfortable chair, grind the weld on the back side then cut it good on the thin part front and back and smack that bitch. Or grind it off piece by piece like I had to do with mine, because my coilover bracket is welded to the contuor of the C. The hard part for me was putting on the new one. I put on my cooking apron baked it till nice and hot and the sucker still wouldn,t fit so I ground down the tube and wala, a couple of big blows from Gods hammer and I was good to go.

I had heard cutting the weld with a portaband works well. Just don't cut the tube.

Prolly gonna use the Metabo. If you haven't ever used one you need to try it. They are ten times as good as a regular grinder. loller.gif But like I said we gonna wheel this one again tillit breaks again and thendo something. Just trying to get my ducks in a row. :dunno:
