I did not want to hijack the thread about tractor insurance but wondered how other guys insure their rigs. A 90 model yj would get about 4000 worth of coverage and my insurance agent doesn't care how built it is, so how do I insure it to get enough money out of it if stolen or wrecked?

Hagerty's or Bank of London or some other collector car insurance. But geico ain't replacing no coilovers!

good topic.. but what do they actually cover? just theft?

and I am asking about a strict off road rig.. does it have to be titled?

I would check with Grundy's Insurance, they cover race cars except for between burnout box and the end of the track.

Re:

State Farm said they'd insure my rig with itemized build sheet full coverage. I explained what I actually do with it, my agent said no problem.
Rounding out build sheet and cost to rebuild then I take it to them for inspection. Registration not needed....we'll see.

Allstate will insure mine upto $20k. Thats almost enough to be a lil less pissed. Thats for fire and theft. There was a pretty lengthy thread on this not too long ago. I will see if I can dig it up.

I've wondered about this myself. Would like to have a policy that covers fire and theft. No,I'm not lookin' to cash in on my rig! Lol
Guess I need to talk to my Ky Farm Bureau agent....see what kinda dumb look I get.

Hope your kfb agent is better than mine. they won't even consider covering my jeep, at all. Wouldn't even sell me liabilty on it because it's an off road vehicle. Thought maybe by being honest with em they would hook me up but no such luck.

I just wasted a week with hagerty's. They told me they won't insure something used off road.

Mine is insured for $40K. It is a stated value policy with mileage restrictions. It is a "show car". I can't help it if it fell off the trailer on the way home...

F#*k State Farm. I have a foxbody mustang that I've owned for about 10 years now. It's a "street car" with a full rollcage. When I first got it I was fully insured with State Farm (3 vehicles & home), and backed the car into a concrete light pole base in a parking lot & did some damage to the passenger side door & quarter panel. The adjuster came out & took pics of the car before I could get there to meet him. They sent me a check, I got the car fixed, and about 6 months later I got a letter saying they were canceling my 1990 mustang because it is "modified for racing" because it has a cage. When I called my agent he offered zero help/advice and basically said "sorry bout 'cha", so I cancelled my entire policy and they'll never get any business from me again. I tried going through Grundy but they told me they weren't accepting "late models" unless they were part of a collection. Wtf. So the car still doesn't have the coverage it needs and if anything happens to it I guess I get screwed with the blue book value of 1990 mustang LX. Now I have a buggy that I have wondered about insuring but have no idea where to go. Like everyone else here, I'm not looking to cash in if I destroy it on a big hill, I just want protection if my garage burns down or if some :afro: decides they want it more than I do.

I asked my State Farm agent, and was told they would insure it. Problem is I can only get blue book value of a 91 Zuk. That ain't worth ****. I just wanted to know if it burned down, or was stolen I wouldn't just be out.

State Farm liability would have been $6 a month but I got full coverage 10k with 1k deductible for $25 a month. Mine is a built all tube rig that I went through the trouble of getting a title for.

Grundy turned me down after they received the pictures.

You need a very good independent agent to get insurance. I was turned down several times before being accepted. The 38 Special and Solo Buggy are insured by different companies. No reason to go into the names because others have tried and have not been able to insure through these same companies. Both are stated value policies and are full coverage. I will say that one is listed as a "6,280cc Dune Buggy" They have pics of what they are insuring. Both have limits on mileage at 1,000 road miles per year.
