Is this a good fuel system for a LQ4 6.0L???

Thanks JJ. He says there is like $600 bucks worth of stuff there. I come up with about $390 with the two filters, adjustable FPR and pump. I guess the lines and fittings cost that much......?

Those lines and fittings aren't cheap. I haven't added up how much he has in those but yeah, probably easily another $100 - $200.

FYI, I'm pretty sure that your engine doesn't have a return line from manifold to tank and you'll need some form of return if I'm not mistaken. I don't know what type of regulator that is in the pics but it appears to be Aeromotive. Most of the Aeromotive stuff has a return port but that one doesn't appear to so I don't know what to tell you about that. It may have one and I'm just not seeing it. Or he may have been planning to run it all on an engine with a return line and has plugged the return port. Don't know.

I thought if it was returnless it could remain that way?? Im pretty sure mine is returnless being an 07 model. IIRC anything post 04 is that way.

Well after doing some reading they are all basically a return system just the later models return it right in the tank where the FPR is. Look at the pic of the regulator.....looks like a nipple coming out of the top right side of it to me.

Correct, they all have return lines. Some just return from the manifold, others return at the regulator.

I believe that the nipple on that regulator is a vacuum nipple. It just depends on what model regulator that is. Get that info from him and you can find out what you need to know.

And, BTW, no matter what you can MAKE that system work for you. Its just a question of whether or not the work required to do so is worth it to you. Also, fuel systems are like suspension or big bock vs. small block. There's many ways to do them and everyone has an opinion.

Ok, the nipple on the top right is for boost pressure for a turbo setup. The return comes out of the bottom and it does have it. Check that thread again and look at the updated pics. Thats quite a lot of stuff there for $350 bucks IMO. I always ran Walbro 255's in my Mustangs so I know there good. From what Ive seen on the net the big micron pre-filter is spot on and then its just a matter of what pump you like and what kinda FPR you like. Some go with the Vette filter/regulator and some not. My main hangup is I dont even have ****in wheels yet and Im lookin at fuel stuff. But that is the way I do alot of things.....ass backwards if it is a good deal.

I have been looking for AWHILE for a good deal on some 17x10" beadlocks for Rockwells and an Atlas and just not having any luck with that. I really dont want to put bent up/scratched up parts on this buggy. I like the new in box for half price deals...LOL!

I am going through this right now and Wide Open Design has helped me with my AN Fittings and Hose. I purchased my Walbro 255 pump at walbro255.com I believe and then I sell Wix brand with my Amsoil business and purchased the Fuel Filter/Regulator for a Corvette. it has the return line coming out of it. I know you can get the hose and fittings you need for around 200.00 then 45.00-55.00 for the regulator/filter and 110.00 for the pump.

With that said if you buy that guys kit how do you know the hose is the right length where you need to run it. The hose is the most cost on a single item. So give that some thought. I believe if you call Rocky at Wide Open Design he can beet that price and you can set your own system up.

You're not comparing apples to apples though. That regulator is a far cry from POS factory crap. True though, you can't really consider the hose a factor because the only valuable piece is that 10' length which may be too short for your longest run anyway which would then require you to buy another 20' length a new price in the end anyway.

That being said, let me know if you don't buy it because I may.

The regulator yeah I agree. Would that be any better than the regulator/filter combo. I know it is a cheaper route but seems to do very well. But the hose was the biggest factor in the deal. Good price never the less. I think most complete setups with 1 long run of tubing is nearly 700.00 but that is all the goodies.

I've heard nothing bad about factory regs. I just like to split the reg/filter function so that if you need to replace your filter you don't have to replace your reg, too. Replacement filters for those inlines ones int hat thread are probably under $10. Rplacement factory regulators are over $50. I can buy a bunch of replacement inline filters and throw them in my toolbox in the rig just in case. I wouldn't carry a bunch of replacement regulators. Plus, with the Aeromotive regulator you can adjust your fuel pressure. You can't with the factory.

True. You're also right about the hose. I wouldn't even consider it part of the value. Who wants a bunch of cut up hose?

Well its 10'. Im just going from right behind the seat to the back of the engine. Granted it probably want be the way the crow flies but I can use some of that other hose to get me part of the way there. The reg/filters dont have to mount right on the cell. They can be along the way to the engine....down a frame rail or something like that maybe. I dont know.....****.

Im not a big fan of that Vette reg/filter for some reason but see alot of people using them with good luck I suppose. Ya'll are just telling me that so you can go buy it :gtfo:

LOL!!

This sytem is good with high dollar parts. I just took the simple way and done the regulator/filter for ease of use. I plan on running another filter before my regulator/filter so I don't have to spend 40.00 every time. As for the hose 10' should get you there if you get creative with mounting everything. remember to keep the pump as close to the cell as possible as they are better fuel pushers than pullers.

I will probably just save my coin for now and try to get some wheels and stuff I really need at this part of the build. Hell you can find those AFPR and Aeromotive pumps for sale all day long on the hot rod boards like Corral.net

that way I know Im getting stuff in the places it needs to be and not settling for where it ends up being.

On the other hand it is nearly $400 bucks worth of just parts. I CAN use the fittings and most of that hose.....**** what to do???

The walbro 255 seems to be the best pump for these engine, the regulator is nice as well. As for the hose just get a coupling/union and put 2 pieces of the hose together. Then buy just enough for the return. It is a good deal and I have 400.00 in my stuff.

Well looked on Jegs and I can get 20' of -6AN for around $75-80 bucks worst case scenario the 10' dont reach. But I will still have all those little high dollar fittings I can use and can use part of the 10' section to put the other stuff where I want it if the little short pieces dont work. I gonna get some quotes on beadlocks tomorrow and make a descision.....fuel or wheels.
