on pirate i have a thread about what brake booster and master cylinder to use for my dana 44 calipers at all 4 corners...

a guy is saying i don;t need the brake booster (big round thingy) just the master cylinder with a 1.125" bore and that that'll be enough... i'm having a hard time believing that you can run the MC without the BB i thought the two of them had to go together... someone school me on this please:mad:

It'll work just fine.

But you may want a longer pedal, or in other words a higher pedal ratio to offset the lack of the booster as all power to the brakes is now coming from your leg.

It will work. Plus if you don't run a booster, if you motor dies there won't be any surprises when you are trying to brake. The pedal will be the same all the time. :awesomework:

ok, so i just need to rework the leverage for it then...:eeek: that seems to be a good deal, then i won't have to figure out how to fit a huge brake booster into the engine bay.

(thinking aloud) i wonder if i'll have to reinforce the firewall a bit in order to support the extra stress...??? because it looks a bit sketchy with jsut the two bolts holding it on...:eeek:

edit:
so essentially the booster is like power steering... it's there to ease the "manual" forces...

southside brake and clutch sells a universal very small brake booster. I use to run no booster but now that I have one I would never go back. When the engine dies it still takes very little effort to stop.

Use one, you wont regret it

how much is it and will it bolt to the "generic" master cylinder???

Brake boosters....hmmm.. originally included an designed for the vehicle to be easily stopped by women. Car maufactures needed to make women feel safe in operating a car. Since this was a new market to target, especially in the older days where women were increasingly applying themselves in life, and had a great influence on male customers the "power" assist was included in manufacturing. NOW there are two types..Hydo assist, and vacuum. Vacuum ..using the big round thingy! hydro ..coming off your power steering pump. Utilizing the hydo assist takes up less space, and can be snug to the fire wall. Or you could get a bigger foot! and use none!. The stats you got are accurate for the bore and stroke!

Get the brake booster Roccrawler spoke of...

What's the point of having MANUAL brakes, when you don't want a MANUAL clutch??

You guys are quite cute with your comments. But when it comes right down to it power brakes are far superior when operating correctly trying to stop oversize tires and wet brakes..

Hence why aircraft now have a control yolk in place of a stick in many cases. Women who were getting into flying didn't feel comfortable moving a stick around between their legs and getting caught in their dress (they still wore them back then:fawkdancesmiley: )

i don't recall you having manual brakes...:fawkdancesmiley:
