I have a 90 cherokee with the 4.0 and auto tranny. When i first start it it runs fine but after 10 minutes of running I have problems with it. It idles fine but when I give it gas it falls on its face and or dies. Most of the time it will fall on its face and then rev but its getting pretty old. What could it be?

Catalytic converter fall apart and clog the muffler?

When was the last time you did a tune up?

Also fuel pressure. You could check that at the fitting on the fuel rail with a pressure tester available at your local parts store.

Sounds like possibly a bad throttle position sensor... if I remember right, I was troubleshooting something on my rig and it would run with the TPS disconnected but would stumble like that before revving... I don't remember what the procedure is for testing it, but I bet if you search on NAXJA.org you would find it.
