So this past weekend I went nutts with some spray paint and a spare hood. The color is Burnt copper by dupli-color. Through on some vinly that I designed to kinda kill the brightness. :redneck: It's nto perfect, doesn;t need to be because its just going to get beat on anyways. So hows it look?

Here's some pics.

Looks great! Can you go over some of your prep work and process? I want to make mine look perty this winter too.

all I did and I wish I wouldn't of, for the hood I stripped the paint off to the bare metal. Then primed it, filled in a little bondo where needed, then primered, wet sanded it then painted it. I should of wet sanded it again but I started to rush it, I figured its just going to get beat on anyways who cares about the quality. So slapped on a thin clear coat and called it done. The cowl and window frame I just scuffed up with some sandpaper. Then painted it.

Pretty basic I guess.

Oh and painting in a single car gagare, even though you have the door open, is not enough ventilation. I was high as hell from paint fumes and stripper fumes. :haha:

But I didn't have a hang over the next day. I thought for sure my head would be pounding. :redneck:

From the pic in your sig, it looks kinda like a "rich" rig. :redneck:

But in the closeups it looks great. I'll bet it looks badass in person.

Nice job. :awesomework:

No looks better in pics. :redneck: But I'm very picky about it.

Shoot i wish my body was straight like that... What you use to strip the paint? sand or a stripper?

I just laughed a-------------------------lot :redneck:

When we used to strip cars we would send them to a place in marysville that would blast them with walnut shells....

Oh good question I learned a lot about strippers this weekend. (paint):redneck:

DO NOT use the spray on Aircraft remover or Tal-strip aerosal cans. Yeh they strip the paint at a very slow rate and only were you spray it on thick. I figured this out after 3 cans and all I had done was about an 18" section. I then went and got the Low Oder aircraft remover "liquid". That stuff works perfect, just spread some on and in about 5-10 minutes you can scrape it off with a putty.

I probably didn't need to strip this hood, but I used it as a test hood for different colors of paint. Thats how I picked out the color.

The paint is Made by dupli-color,, its the Metal Specks line and the color is Burnt copper. Cost's about $11/can. Took me 5 cans and 2 cans of clear coat. Oh and 2 or 3 cans of black primer.

One of my co-workers offered to sand blast it for me. I wish I could of taken him up on it. Using stripper took hours..I actually started the night before with the spray crap. :booo:

I have always loved the orange color on a jeep and you don't see that many of them.
