What is the best way to get the knuckle off the axle. I have given then a fair treatment of BFH and it was a joke. Also what's up with the threaded top and 4 slot nut on top of the axle yoke?

Get a bigger fawkin' hammer. Or smack a pickle fork in the lower and put a little pressure on it, then give the knuckle a good whack. Should just drop right out.

The slotted threaded piece is the preload adjuster so that minor variations in casting can be adjusted out by threading the upper ball joint seat in or out. When you put the axle back together, if you use new ball joints, you'll need to follow the proper procedure for installing to make sure you get that threaded piece in the right spot.

YEA BABY!!! The RIGHT tool for the RIGHT job,,,

Knuckle + 8 lb sledge = JOB DONE

I had to start with the 32 oz'er because it is such a family tool, it's been in the WA coal mines and in Boeing before you had to take personal tools home.

Thanks for the tips..
