Please follow the link located above for the complete entry form for qualified teams. Entries must be recieved no later than 9:00 am December 15th, or your space will be forfieted. This years race will be approxemently 120 miles in length
New for 2011 the race course will be two approx 60 mile long laps. Yes that's correct the 2011 Griffin King of the Hammers will follow the format of the other Ultra4 endurance races and be a lap race. The 2010 year taught us a number of things and feed back for lap races was the largest positive feedback we received. Following the California 200 tragedy Spectator safety has become paramount in our efforts to produce a race. The Ultra4 Stampede was the test model for a number of items we learned in 2010. Most important was the ability to manage a safe spectator area.
There will be two designated Pit stop locations. Main pit and one remote pit stop location that can be used at race mile 30, 40, 90, and 100. Mileage is estimated at this time plus or minus 5 Miles. Remote Pit will be closed to spectators. You must have a pit pass to access this area. In the past we received concern for safety in the remote pit areas. This is a direct result of our racers talking to us on how to make the race a better and safer experience for all.
You will notice your entry form requires a number of waivers to be signed. In an effort to expedite our onsite registration we now require that your pit crew waivers, media release waivers, and co driver waivers be filled out before you send them into our office. You will also have to provide a 2 GB or less SD card when you check in at the race if you would like the GPS Download. Teams can share this Card, but we will no longer load your GPS for you. PCI will be able to assist you with this process if you require assistance. We hope to again provide onsite GPS training as well as a number of other seminars.
In 2011 we will begin a new process at King of the Hammers. KOH will no longer be free to spectators. After much debate concerning the increased costs to produce this race, and how best to recover the additional expense, we felt it would be unfair to increase the drivers entry fees to a level that would cover the BLM's new requirements. Although we have had to show an increase in driver entry fees, we hope to spread the expense to the element that has created that cost and charge admission to spectators for this event. It will be a daunting task to manage, and we ask that all teams work with us to insure the tradition of this race continues for years to come.
We are also asking for help educating our spectators and fan's about the dangerous conditions that occur when fans get too close to the race course. We are working with BLM to identify a number of spectator areas and how best to enforce these areas. But ultimately the drivers will have to play a proactive role in this process as our enforcement cannot be at all locations at all times. History shows that the few sometimes impact the many. Please help us prevent a few bad seeds from creating a situation that results in negative publicity for our sport.
We hope to present a new rule book for the 2011 season at KOH or shortly before. There will be only a few small changes that will affect the KOH race and most will pertain to the additional new events we have scheduled over the year. Two changes that all should be aware of are that each driver in the race car must be able to reach a device to cut the safety belts, and spectators can no longer assist a team in recovery efforts. Spectator involvement was something we were looking at following the 2010 Sledgehammer canyon debate, and the California200 made the choice easy. If you cannot self recover you will need to seek assistance from another team, or our KOH recovery crews only.
Pit tents will again be available for rent we are still working out final details of this service. Please make sure you fill out the entry form as complete as possible to help us quickly process you on the lakebed. If your team members are not registered with us they will be asked to pay the spectator entry fee when they arrive. We will provide a list of our teams to the staff that will be working with the rangers at the entrance to Johnson valley OHV area. Please help us make this process as easy as possible. We are expecting to have an extremely exciting event week at the 5th running of the Griffin King of the Hammers.
This year again 4 wheel Parts will make daily deliveries to Hammertown, so if you need last minute parts I suggest you arrange delivery with 4 wheel parts and install them on site.
See you all in Hammertown and lets hope this year we don't have beach front property.
