OK I'll just throw it out there and be stupid.I lost all my saved mail with the comp virus.Can someone told the old forgetfull one the deadline on the LCQ entry fee.Thanks Parttimer

12/1/08 is the date and it's $200. When you make it, the $200 gets credited toward the $575 entry fee. The rest of the cash is due before you can tech for the actual KOH race.

Pops, this is the email

Race teams; August 19, 2008

Welcome to king of the Hammers February 22-27 2009.

IMPORTANT: This letter will give you most of the race details. The only thing that has changed substantially is the registration fee deadline. We had to move it from 11/1/08 to 10/1/08. The reason is that we are going to having a starting order draw telecast live on the internet from the Offroad Expo in Pomona. Any concerns please contact Dave directly at 714 615 8507. Now back to the details…

KOH 2009 is gearing up to be an historic event, with the largest field yet, nearly double the entries of 2008. We shattered our expectations in 2008, by thinking outside the box and staging KOH on a Friday. Hosting the race during the week has enabled us a unique opportunity to reach a wider audience who may not tune in during the weekend, as instead of watching coverage they participate in offroading. Our 2007 coverage is still going strong, with Spike TV Extreme 4x4 TV garnering approx. 4 million impressions per episode, and the extreme 4x4 TV web site pulling in an additional 500,000 monthly views.

Among the many websites that covered King of the Hammers 2008, Pirate 4x4 boasts 1.1 million unique visitors per month and King of the Hammers has remained the hottest topic for the last year and excitement for the 2009 coverage is starting to ramp up. If you have not seen the King of the Hammers page on Pirate 4x4 please take a look. Pirate 4x4 has begun 2009 with the list of drivers with headshots. We are working with Pirate 4x4 to develop team pages highlighting each team including the LCQ drivers (more on the LCQ later).

Some 2008 web-based highlights;
• Crawl magazine launched its site around KOH. With 144,365 unique visits, the newly launched site crashed due to overload with in the first hour of the race. An unbelievable feat considering this was a new site with out an established fan base.
• Race â€"dezert.com a non-rocksports based desert racing web site had 14,495 KOH related hits in the days before KOH.
• Flexonthis.com aired the first video coverage of KOH 2008 in the days after the race. Within five days after the race Feb 24-Feb 29, Flex on this had 80,000 hits, 5,500 film down loads, and 14,000 page down loads
• Interestingly On the Marq photography had really specific data for us concerning impressions of his KOH photos. Between Feb 25th-Feb 29th, On the Marq had 167,695 unique IP hits with 110,000 in the first 24 hours. The following countries visited on the Marq. US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Monaco, Japan, Guam, Italy, Brazil, and Israel.

With over 150 applications for KOH 2009, Hammerking Productions Inc. had to devise a new strategy for servicing our participants. Working closely with the BLM we are trying something new in the form of the Last Chance Qualifier.

The Last Chance Qualifier; Approx. 40 drivers will compete for the chance to race King of the Hammers, on Feb 26. The 2-mile course is representative of the overall KOH race with vertical rock climbs, sand hills, whoops, and wide-open desert. The fastest racers will advance to the Main event on Friday. The “LCQ” should be an extremely well published race that will be every bit as exciting as the main event.
We are working closely with Pirate4x4.com for live race day coverage of the event, and we expect the LCQ rival the main event in popularity.

Also new for 2009 we will release the course map 3 days before the start of the race. We expect a large group for pre-running so please consider safety first. Pre running is not part of the King of the Hammers event and race teams do so at there own risk. Hammerking Productions is not organizing prerunning of the race course, teams do so at there own risk, we will not provide any race services in the days leading up to the LCQ. Along the same lines due to the large volume of participants for 2009 we have decided there will be no chasing, period. This includes the open desert sections of racecourse. We have implemented this rule in an effort to maintain a safe environment for all.

• Online Satellite Tracking - Speaking of safety we are in talks with Rally Logger to provide tracking for the race. We have not settled on the specs of the unit, nor if we will be requiring their use. Some of the options include the ability to plug a transponder into an existing race radio. We are weighing cost, benefit, performance, and need. We’ll let you know as things progress. It is our intent to cover as much of the cost as possible. We are also looking into using race radios as the ‘communication’ method for the GPS units. If you don’t have a radio yet, hold off on purchasing one. The tracking unit may solve that problem as well.

The Race Course:
KOH is a timed event with drivers leaving the starting position in timed intervals. Starting position will be from random drawing, to be held at the Off-Road Expo in Pomona Ca. KOH is a blend of all aspects of off-road racing. Wide-open desert,-sandy washes, -hill climbs, -dry lakebeds,- Rocky ledges, -canyons, -and off camber situations. Drivers are expected to be totally self-sufficient. There will be no chasing at this race! Drivers may have pit stops but only at designated areas. Refueling will take place only at KOH approved locations. Participants are expected to achieve their own recovery in the event of a breakdown. The Time limit for this event is 10 hour’s. Course mileage will be between 50-100 miles in length.

It is very important drivers follow the rules regarding environmental concerns. We have worked hard with the BLM to make this race a reality….Please follow the rules regarding your pit stops, and cleaning up fluid spills.

King of the Hammers is an unlimited, vehicle spec competition. There are no limitations on tires, engine or body. Single seat buggies are approved. W.E. ROCK safety rules for 2008 or the most current set of rules available will be enforced. Un-sportsmanship like conduct will not be tolerated. In the event of an event dispute participants must make a request for complaint to be heard by the competition review board. CRB will be composed of current and past rock sports personalities, not participating in KOH competition.

Each participant is expected to stop at 10 randomly located checkpoints. If any participant misses a check point they will have to go back and complete that section. First and foremost; participant safety is paramount, Rock sports culture is a tight knit group, please keep in mind the safety of others during this race. KOH goal is to provide an enjoyable and beneficial outlet for teams. Please give any foot traffic or non race vehicles the right of way. It is important for our continued success. BLM will be on site during this race, please obey any officers. Please read the materials on environmental concerns in your driver’s package closely. Two major concerns are the desert tortoise, and dealing with fluid spills. Any participant found to be in violation of environmental rules would be disqualified from KOH. (Information to follow).

Communications will be handled on Desert Racing style race radios. As mentioned previously, we will be in contact very soon regarding the use of the Rally Tracker communications equipment. Medical personnel will be monitoring race frequency in the event of an emergency. Please review our medical emergency plan in your driver’s package. KOH will also have extrication crews in areas that require it. Please review the extrication crew plan in your driver’s package. ( drivers package to follow)

Be advised of all W.E.ROCK safety rules, in addition KOH will require a yellow rearward facing dust light and a functioning horn. KOH highly suggest the use of forward facing lights to mediate traffic concerns in dusty race sections, and the use of rearward facing mirrors.

Drivers and co drivers will be required to wear a fire rated drivers suit, as well as motorsports approved helmets.

Entry fees must be received no later then October 1st 2008.
Drawing for starting position will be held Saturday Oct 4th, the King of The Hammers Booth, at the Pomona Offroad Expo. Broadcast live on Pirate 4x4.com. There will be no exceptions, make sure your entry is received by OCT 1st or you will be cut from the King of the Hammers race. You need not be present to be included in the drawing.

Last Chance Qualifier;
In an effort to allow fair entry into King of the Hammers 2009 Hammerking Productions developed the last chance qualifier, to be held Thursday Feb 26. There will be no pre running of the KOH racecourse on Feb 26th.
The LCQ will be an approx. 2 mile race course using the infamous Backdoor trail.
Cost to participate in the LCQ will be $200.00. Entry fees must be received no later then Dec 1st 2008.

Drivers who advance to KOH will be credited $200 toward the $575.00 KOH entry fee, but fees must be paid in cash before racecar is allowed to tech.

Only pre registered drivers are allowed to participate in the LCQ. Hammerking Productions reserves the right to add drivers at there discretion.

The top drivers will advance to KOH, as well as any additional spots that may become open due to drop outs in the invite list. We will fill all available spots from the LCQ up to 75 cars. Final number to be determined after Oct 1st deadline, but we will fit as many as possible under the BLM guidelines.

About the invite list;
This year proved difficult in choosing the teams to race KOH. We had no idea that we would receive so many applications. We hope to give the same sense of adventure to LCQ Teams that last years teams received. In an effort to do this we have created the LCQ Liaison. Desiree Porter has volunteered to be the lead regarding LCQ Drivers. Desiree has already begun collecting headshots of all the teams and creating the database of team information. Look for Desiree to help us make your involvement a great experience.

We hope to accomplish the same goal in regards to the invited drivers with an addition Liaison covering your needs. Please keep in mind that they are volunteers. Melanie Foster, Roxywheels from the Pirate board, has stepped up to take the lead in this position and should be up and running in short order.

A few new things for KOH 09;

In an effort to streamline race day line up we will assign pit locations this year. Our vision will allow you to stage your rig for the race in front of your pit and be ready to race. This years race will start at first light so we feel this will give you a few more minutes of sleep with out the headache of staging. We must start the race on time as our time limit is based on sunset.

Contingency and Tech;
Contingency and tech will take place following the LCQ in main camp. We are inviting industry leaders to offer contingency in KOH, but KOH does not plan on managing contingency payouts at this time. Each vendor will have to payout there own contingency to the winners.
Tech will take place at the end of contingency row with Media outlets mixed into the contingency in an effort to allow each team plenty of face time with the press.

The first thing you need to do when you get to King of the Hammers is locating your pit. Maps will be mailed following the drawing for start positions.
The second thing you need to do is check in and make sure all your waivers have been signed as well as your pit crew. You will receive you course map and GPS file at this time.

Spectators:
We are still working out the details with the BLM, but 2009 will be a spectator event. Please above all else be mindful of people on the racecourse, we do not want anyone’s weekend ruined, or hurt. There will be a strict pre-run speed limit in effect. Travel from pit to pit will be speed regulated.

Web site:
Our new KOH website is under construction and we hope to have it up in a timely manor, please understand that both Jeff and Dave have full time jobs, race team commitments, and families as well as the KOH. Sleep is over rated.

More information to follow.
Good luck and thank you for your interest in King of the Hammers 2009.
