For those who volunteer and work with the DNR at Walker Valley know Candace better than I do. But she is leaving her post for a job at olympia.

Hummm.... Intersting.

Will they be replacing her, or just giving one of the other managers her duties?

She was the recreation manager for the NW region of DNR correct?

See ya..................................................................

I didn't trust her.

It's a gov't job...no good, no bad. Just someone collecting a pay check at our expense to uphold the written rules & regs.

I think she did a good job but like any job of that nature tied down by rules they must follow.

Mike as for good/bad we don't know. But with any new face we will have to get to know them and visa versa.

So is this good or bad?

Yeah this could be good or bad depending on the person who fills her spot if anyone. The few times I've talked with her she didn't give me the impression that she was a motorized user hater. The new person could be against us from the start. Hell it could be one of those people from the video I posted earlier.

Ben Cleveland will be taking over the Reiter prodject(and I would assume walker valley but not sure). If anybody has time look him up and see if you can get a feel for him. I don't know him myself nor have I heard anything about him.

Cleveland, Ben Acting Region Manager

Cleveland, Ben Assistant Region Manager Resource Protection & Services

If its the guy I think it is, then it will be good to have him aboard.:awesomework:

Not sure I would exactly say we were loosing her.... She could have been worse I suppose. Ben was at the Walker Focus Group a few months back when Bob Penhale gave his talk because of Lider. Ben was introduced that night but I don't recall him saying much.

That who I thought it was. If I remember right, he used to wheel or something of the like.

And yes, he is kindof quiet. He was also at the DOE meeting at Walker this summer.

The question I have is, what position is Candace filling in oly????:corn:
I met Ben at that DNR meeting when Penhale was up...is a quiet guy, but seemed on the level...IIRC he was a singletrack rider... I remember he was having a conversation with Marty (SMC prez) about riding somewhere...

Bens been around for a couple of years. the few times I have been around him it has been good. Candace I wil miss her. you always knew where you stood with her

Here was the statment that came out today

New Opportunities for Candace Johnson
It is with a mixture of sadness and excitement that I want to let you know I am moving on to a new assignment with DNR in Olympia, effective January 3. I will be managing DNR's statewide silviculture program, which includes the tree nursery, research, and monitoring. I have enjoyed working with you, and the great partnerships that have developed during this process. I appreciate all of your hard work. Without you, we would not be as far along as we are with Reiter Foothills Forest. For now, Ben Cleveland, Acting Region Manager for DNR's Northwest Region, will fill in as project lead. Contact Ben at 360-854-2802.

Thanks for everything, and best wishes for a happy New Year!

~ Candace

Candace was one of those who liked to play by the rules, and while she was our friend for trying to get new places open (aka reiter), and making sure enviros didn't take over, she also wasn't keen in bending rules for motorized recreation. However she didn't mind bending the rules for non-motorized rec. She had her biases (mtn bike, horseback), which are fine -- and could be much worse (anti-ORV use period)
I've heard Ben is somewhat friendlier in regards to ORV use. Hes been both single track and at one point used to Jeep (pokey style :;) With the freeze on hirings, I don't think we will see a replacement for her job for a while. But like others here, a new hire could be potentially much worse.

That all said, congrats to the new position and I hope she loves it!
