Are there any differences between the two for heat exchange properties? I'm wondering if running low tox at 50/50 in my bronco might be one of the many contributing factors to it's overheating ills.

One of the problems I have seen at our shop occasionally is the water pump. If your PH level is too high it will eat away the prop's in the water pump and wont flow. We have even seen where the prop is completely broke free of the pulley. No leakage from outside the engine but no flow of the coolant, and then it overheats.

If your going to switch out coolant types make sure you have all of the old stuff removed. Dexcool will not mix with green coolant, it gel's up.

Just some info for you...

Thankyou.

I do not use the dexcool.. I went from regular green to weird "low tox" green. And the system was dry when I did it. I am in the middle of flushing it, put the prestone flush stuff in with water and it's running 10 degrees cooler than usual at idle.... maybe I'll go with like a 40/60 or 30/70 coolant water mix with the new stuff... and I am gonna probably take a look at the pump too.. I have a "different" noise at the front of the motor that I'm not sure is the roller timing chain... but it's not the failing water pump bearing in a coffee can either. :eeek:

Use the conventional coolant. Then you can leave it in a bucket in the back yard when your neighbors cat shits in your lawn:haha:
