I was wondering if my marlin crawler double tcase skid plate will be strong enoungh to mount my lower links to it. I would rather do this then to fab a new x-member. My lowers are about 52" long if that will make a difference. Stock 22r, stock dual cases, 81 toy. truggy, 36 iroks with stock gears in the axles.

52 inches? Mine are 42 and I am cutting 6 inches out of them to match my front lowers. Long links get really enoying hanging up all the time.

my uppers are around 39". so goin off of the petersens 4wheel article i thought they were to be around 70% the length of the lowers. what are your uppers if your cuttin the lowers down to 42. I think i will try my setup out because i have already got the axle located and dont have much room to play. I forgot to add in that it is a triangulated 4 link. Will this X-member hold up if i mount my lowers to it?

I wouldnt as there is alot of stress exerted by the links during cycling. Do yourself a favor and build somrthing that was meant for holding the suspension in its place.

Why would you want your lowers and uppers to be soooo damn long ?? Now what is it out here in the PNW I have seen a few threads (4-7) with people running such long links does it seem to help ??

I fabed up my lowers at 42" and my uppers at 32.5" and I knew I was running them a bit long at that.

So I am just stumped as to why I see so many people running such long links

the doubler alone is enough to tear motor mounts, add your lower links to it and who knows what would happen. i would not reccomend it at all.

Don't believe everything you read in the magazines.

Darius I fixed it for you :D Don't look at all the redneck trucks that my 5'3" wife can walk under that have 50"-70" traction bars and think they are a link set up :haha:

But Darius is right :awesomework:

alright i am shortening everything up, my lowers will have some good angle but if they are about 40" and my uppers are around 30" i should be alright on length. this puts everything right behind the cab pretty much and frame mounts above frame. i wasnt believing what i read, i was going off of there 4 link for dummies tech. I came up with the length on my own. and Snohman on pirate had those numbers too. Thanks for the replies maybe i will get pics one day when i finish
