I'm helping my local volunteer fire dept build a brush truck. It's a 84 chevy one ton. I've got a 2005 model drive by wire 6.0 motor a 400 turbo tranny and 208 tcase but hope to find a 205. I was going to keep the drive by wire and called yesterday to order a wiring harness and was told I needed a electronic tranny ( 4l60 or 4l80). I assume it won't work cause The drive by wire does not have a kick down cable for the transmission.

What do I need to do? Keep in mind on low budget.
Keep drive by wire and find new tranny and transfer case.
Get a drive by cable and use tranny and transfer case I already have. The tranny I have needs to be rebuilt and new torque converter anyway.

It will work you need to do some reading and searching on the setup there are hundreds running that setup

Yes it will work that's what I'm running in mine bolt right up no problems if getting new torque converter call ed at ptc and they will make a torque coverter that will bolt right up to flywheel if not you will have to elongate your bolt holes on flywheel to bolt in Tc. Also run a manual valve body and you'll be fine

I know it will work in a rock rig with Manuel valve body. But I need it to work in a streetable rig and shift automatically.

You can switch to a drive by cable throttle body. Then there are several companies that make linkage adapters for kickdown cables

Run the kick down cable through the firewall and hook it to the gas pedal. I am sure something can be rigged up on the drive by wire pedal.

Turbo 400's don't have kickdown or TV cables. They only need a vacuum supply & if u want a kickdown they need 2 wires & a swtich.

I am curious,, Why did they say it wouldn't work?

I didn't realize they don't have kick down cables. The just said it would not work with that transmission. I'm going to call rci tomorrow and talk with Ricky. Maybe he can get me set straight.

In my 88 chevy ive got 6.0 turbo 400 and a np205 gets 9 or 10 mpg with 4.10 gear 70mph on the interstate or around town
so it will work just hook up a vacuum line to the modulator valve it will work just like factory

You need a spacer (or a AA adapter flexplate) to get your flexplate closer to the torque comverter.
