So finally got around to getting a cam for my 5.3 it is all stock nothing special, called Texas speed and told them what I wanted (better low end tourqe and good throttle response) I am not a motor builder by any means so I just asked for his best opinion this is what he said would work the best
(CustomCamshaft - Comp Cams Custom Order Camshaft:
3-bolt cam - 211/217 .600/.605 113°+3° LSA. Grind#'s: Intake 13013, Exhaust 13094, ICL 110, ECL 113
199-650PRCSpringKit - PRC .650" Dual Spring Kit)

maybe someone on here can help tell me if it is a good setup Bc I can't find any info on this setup thanks

Th350 has stockish stall maybe 1800 with 3.8 atlas 4.10 gears 43 sx tires I can change stall if need to but I mostly trail ride not so I would like to keep the stall on the low side so I can still crawl around

I would look into a lower gear at the axles or possibly a 4.3 atlas..... Just saying from experience

I like where it is at now the 3.8 is a little high but a 4.3 is a little low had a 4 to 1 it was perfect I just mainly looking for info on the cam thanks

I had a built 5.3 in my last buggy. Similar cam and some head work. 3.0 case and 4:10's. I loved it.

With my 6.0 a custom cam 3.8 and 4:10's it lacked the wheel speed at higher RPM's.. It blew not a have a hot 5.3 and had to go to 5:13's....... Just my experience .... But comp guys def know what they are talking bout

With that stall how was it trail riding and crawling I can get a converter very easy just hate to get one that I will lose that low speed control

Re:

That would be a decent cam for the 5.3. You wont have to spin it to the moon. Comp makes a 212/218 114lsa low lift cam thats pretty popular and cam motion has a 212/218 112lsa that works well and will have alittle choppier idle to it

I would definetly say you will want more converter. Ls engines make hardly any power below 3k. You can have someone build you a nice tight 3k converter that will crawl right there with stock converters and flash on up there when you wanna put on a smoke show. In low side crawling you wont ever really notice a bigger converter

Re:

Iv done plenty of reading and I could never find a great answer on a converter stall... ptc recommended 24-2700. ....

mines a PTC 2600-2800 stall and seems to work great with my setup. 6.0 with texas speed heads, custom grind comp cam.

th350, 3.8 atlas and 5.38s

2200 was too low. would push through the brakes in low range and didn't want to launch really well in high range.

the new stall seems to be a solid choice so far

Re:

/\ ditto on stall with a 06 vette ls2, mast comp and tune, stock cam and 5.13's, on 43 grippies. ..crawls great and launches awesome.

Pretty much what they all said. The only time I felt the stall was a bit big was in a scenario where the buggy was bound up an you would hear it slip a little. Other than that it had great trail manners. It was a 10" converter also, that makes a big difference. I ran a big trans cooler though, to keep it cool.

I just installed a texas speed 224r cam w/ valve springs and pushrods in my 5.3ls, running a very similar setup to yours with 43sxs a 400 turbo and 4.3 atlas with 4:88's. The range on the cam is 2000rpms to 6000. Love the power and with a new tune from Sam Daffron it's doing a great job, no complaints at all, right at 400hp. I would highly recommend this cam

I wanted to get it all put back together and ride a little before I shared how I felt about the cam swap and all I can say is wow I ended up going with 220/220 .581lift 110lsa and new springs it was a great choice it is a little choppy but it really helps bring the power in at lower rpm's and this thing feels so much better I also ended up putting a 2400-2600 ptc stall in with the cam here are the numbers it made on the dyno while he was tunning it

5.3(cammed)th350 3.8 4speed atlas 4.10 gears with h1 and 43 sticky
