I bought a buggy over the weekend that is not finished and it has a 1994 LT1 engine with cast iron heads,is this a good engine , are there any cheap upgrades that can be done, is there any thing I need to address before I start using it? Thanks for your help!

The owner said he started it once in a while but I don't know that for sure it's all there as far as I know!

I had one, and you couldn't run fast enough to GIVE me another one. Some guys have success and love em', I hated mine, sold the Jeep because of it. Just my .02.

Re:

From what I've seen of that engine in like Camero and other gm with it. When they run they're great. Any little problem then it's a nightmare to get it running right again. One reason I wouldn't run it is the way the distributor is mounted down behind the water pump. Water pump ever leaks a little bit or you go through a muddy water puddle and the distributor is done. Just my two cents.

Ls motors are cheap and easy to get. Swap it now and save yourself the trouble. Someone will buy that one.

Buddy of mine runs one out of a 94 firebird and he loves his. It runs strong and has the smoothest idle I've ever seen. Just like any motor, when the harness and pcm mods are done correctly they are great. I wouldn't be worried about it.

The TBI doesn't support upgrades well. Sell it and get a 5.3, LS1, or 6.0 while you aren't too deep into it. Unless you are happy with 275HP, then run it and let it be.

I've had one from a Camaro in the Scrambler for years (8 years no issues) and love it. Starts every time, you can roast the tires and hasn't given me any trouble. it was work to get it to that point but worth it to me.

Everythings bigger in Texas, including the pricetag. :stir:

Apparently!!
I can find 5.3 short blocks of unknown origin and milage etc etc for $500, but not a long block and def not a complete motor. If I could I wouldn't trying to find a TBI 5.7 to replace the one I spun mains on!!

I can get em all day long for under a grand here in TN. 5.3 or 6.0. Obviously that's not an LQ9 but I only gave 850 for my all aluminum L33. I hooked BeerJ up a few weeks ago. I shipped it to PA for less than 200$. By less I mean like 195 or something like that.

Re:

I hate reading threads about how cheap an LS. Makes me wanna get rid of my TBI motor on propane for an l33.
