Measure caster on the bottom of the balljoint?

Can I get an accurate caster measurement off the flat bottom of the lower balljoint on a dana 44?

yeah, just get all the grime and grease off

The other key is to make sure your protractor/angle finder is perpendicular to the axle tube. Any deviation in or out will give you a false caster.
