one of my next projects will be to add a traction bar to my rear axle. because of the limited space and everything that I've got running under my CJ5, I think I'm going to need to route my passenger side exhaust pipe over to the driver side. I want both pipes muffled. My question(s): Is there anything in particular I need to consider if I were going to merge both pipes into one muffler? Will this affect the performance of my LT1 in a negative way? Will it make my exhaust sound like crap? Do I need consider length of the pipes before the merge? okay to just install a Flowmaster 2 into 1?

btw, no cats installed, none will be added either

Any input is appreciated...

Nice thing about the flowmaster is the solid body. You can run the right side pipe across and weld it into the side of the body if you wish.

I've got 2 Flowmaster 40 series on right now and yes for what they are, they work well. I'm not sure I'd weld the muffler to the body or frame cuz that would eliminate any ability for the system to move with the motor (unless there was a flex tube in there somewhere)

The exhaust on my CJ (TPI small block) is setup the same as you described. Dual inlet/3" outlet Flowmaster on the driver side. The passenger side pipe winds around the back of the t-case and makes a sharp 90 into the muffler. I put a flange and gasket at that muffler connection for easy removal. I haven't had a chance to drive it yet but it sure sounds nice revving it in the driveway.

That is funny :haha:

I was meaning the body of the muffler, not "the body" LOL

I ordered 2 Moroso "Spiral Flow" mufflers. Will route the pass side pipe over to the drivers side.

Do ya think the added length of the pass side pipe will affect engine performance? Whether or not it makes a difference, the left and right 02 sensors are the same distance from the motor.

Thank you LuckyBoyOne3 for your quick reply.

I'm hoping that these Moroso mufflers will not be too obnoxious. I read on Pirate in one of the build-up threads that they are pretty calm at idle and low rev's but when ya get on them they liven up. If that's the case, cool...cuz these Flowmaster 40 series (original versions?) are pretty stinkin' loud

make sure those are not flow thru mufflers as they are illegal offroad....

anything that the LEO can stick a rod thru are not allowed in the forest and the last few years they do check.

my flowmaster sounds rocking when i put the juice to it....:awesomework:

they're kinda an interesting design. while there is a tube that runs straight through, around that tube are spiral vanes. I read somewhere that due to physics? whatever might be contained in sparks are heavier than the exhaust gas which would cause it to move to the outermost area of the flow. I'm tending to think that if a spark were to get as far as these mufflers, they'd probably disperse into the vanes and dissipate within them before ever getting close to exiting the system. This plus having turn-downs on each pipe end should help as well.

however, I'm contemplating returning these and purchasing the Flowmaster unit below...
