How does this setup work? Is the motor and drive train mounted backwards? If so is the shift pattern on the transmission backwards?

Reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of turning the seats around in my toyota:redneck:

You mean rear engine? That is having the engine/tranny/t-case is backwards and then yes, your shift pattern would be reversed, but easy to fix with a little bit 'o linkage. Your diffs would also turn backwards, so flip 'em updise down to spin 'em the correct direction.

Mid-engine would refer to an engine mounted behind the driver/passenger (think Pantera), but the tranny (transaxle) is mounted behind that still pointed out back. Everything works the same, just set back behind the driver.
