I need some tips for mig welding directly over-head. I am getting a lot of spitting and sputtering when trying to do this. What changes should I make from standard non vertical welding? Wire speed need to go up or down? Voltage up or down!!!!!!!

I am using a miller 210 gas wire feed.

I have the best luck turning the heat (and speed equaly) lower than what you would use normaly. I move the gun in a stiching motion like I was stick welding pushing the filler into the crack (weld) and trying to avoid making a molten glob that would drip out. And having an extremely clean, bare metal is more important than ever because you are useing less heat to burn all the imperfections, dirt, paint, ect, out of the way.

I don't usually have problems as long as there is a gap or notch or something. A fillet or lap weld is easy, but a butt weld is going to be tougher. You do have to keep moving for sure, or the weld will end up in your lap.

I have been reworking an old trailer I bought, and I am tryin to do a but weld where I added 2 feet on to the old trailer. Cool thanks for the tips......I will give them a shot.......

Turn up the wire speed :;
X3 and you have to be moving a bit quicker than normal, so that the weld doesnt start to drip down

I crank my wire speed drink an energy drink and go into hyper mode personally hahaha

i just wear a few more layers and cowboy up, wuss.

j/k i usally try to get whateve im welding at face or waist height, so i can stand/ sit/ kneel or whatever next to it. that way its not right over my face.

wirespeed and heat are right. the more the better. try getting the trailer about waist high so u can get under it SAFELY. that way you arent laying right under it for it to drip on you.
