are the outers easy to change to a true lug style wheel? instead of the 5 huge star clamp style? or are they ok to run for a while? just read a post on pirate about a guy using them, and planning on using them for a long time...:eeek:

or is it worth my time/money to swap them out for new axles...?

Digger5 has a set of axles from his car trailer for sale. He upgraded from a set of 3500# (each) axles to a set of heavier ones. PM him for details.

I have the mobile home style axles on my trailer and have put over 10,000 miles on them with no issues. If I had the need or opertunity to change them out I would simpley for the fact of being able to put on better wheels and have a better selection of tires

I agree with pokey, but my trailer has been in use since 1978 with mobile home axles, and hauled a tracked bobcat the whole time till i got it a cuople years ago.It had worn out springs on it,so i replaced them and am still using them.I say get what you can aford and can always up grade later when the right deal comes along.

schwabs last I knew sold tires and wheels new for moble home axles for 60 bucksmy dad and i run them I have had 6500 lbs on my single axle no problem and 12000 + on his tandom no problem and they have strong breaks and very wide 10 feet wide most able to be cut down to fit what you need
