Pat, Debbie, Roxi and I decided to take a vacation. We left Jackson, MS last Saturday and flew to Seattle. We stayed the night there, then spent the day Sunday driving to Montana. We made it to Whitefish, MT sunday night. Monday morning we woke up with much anticipation to explore Glacier National Park. The weather Monday was a little less than ideal. When we woke up it was raining a little bit and about 45 degrees. We then headed to the park.
The first stop was Lake McDonald Lodge. This lodge is about 8 miles down Going To The Sun Road. It is a really nice place that was built, I believe, in the 1930's.

This is their little fire place
The park also has these really cool 1920's model tour buses. They have been stretched and built with E-450 drivetrain.
Misc pictures from Monday
30 miles down GTTSR is Logans Pass. By the time we got there it was about 35 degrees and was snowing and sleeting.
We decided to cal it a day and head back to town.
We had a long day planned for Tuesday. We headed out about 6am. We decided to go into Canada and explore the north side of the park. It was a beautiful day. Little did we know it was also going to be a great day for seeing wildlife.
We stopped on the east side of the park at the Great Northern Lodge for some breakfast. This lodge was built in 1913 to house the railroad workers.
We were driving up the east side of the park about 50 miles from the Canada border when I spotted this Bald Eagle. He was perched on top of a pole when we passed him but by the time we got turned around and in position to take a picture he flew off.
We then proceeded on to the border. Note: the Canadian border patrol dont like it when Americans roll through the stop sign. Even if you do stop 15' past it. Anyway, they finally cleared us to go into Canada.
The place we were going in Canada was called Waterton Park. I really didnt know what to expect up there but it really is a little piece of heaven.
When we pulled into the park the ranger told us that the bears were moving in Red Rock Canyon. We headed to the canyon but didnt see any bear. We did hear an elk bugeling but never saw him. We did some hiking through the canyon down to a waterfall.
The cornerstone of Waterton park is the Prince of Wales lodge. This place is nothing short of spectacular. It sits high upon a hill, overlooking a huge lake and a village.
After touring the village and eating some lunch we headed back to Montana to a section of the park called Many Glaciers. We hiked about a mile in to this little lake.
We hiked back out to the car and Debbie almost got ran over by two mule deer. While driving down the road beside a creek we saw 4 bears.

We watched them for a little while and they kept getting closer. By the timewe decided to leave them alone they were about 30 yards away.
We then left Many Glaciers and headed for the east end of Going to The Sun Road. The road was closed just past Logans Pass the day before for roadwork. We went in and decided to hike. This is what we found.
By the time we hiked out, it was getting dark so we headed back to Whitefish. Due to GTTSR being closed to through traffic, it took us about two hours to get back.
Wednesday was another beautiful day. We decided to go back to Logans Pass since the weather was so bad Monday.
We were all exhausted from Tuesday so we did a little more sigt seeing and headed back to town. Pat also wanted to go to a few antique shops.
We got up early Thursday morning and headed back to Seattle. We spent most of the day traveling.
Friday morning we slept in and then went to tour Seattle. We went to the Space Needle, then to the Pike Place Market. The market is a really cool place to go but there are a few strange folks around there.
Check out this guys earrings. I think his girl is smoking pot.
a true Gummy Bear
We also went to the aquarium
At the end of the day we had a Great meal at Place Pigalle, to celebrate the end of a truely amazing vacation.
We flew back home today.
