Got a 5.3 truck motor and want to warm it up a little. What is best bang for the buck? I have heard a cam will help alot. Might go with the LS1 intake in which case I will run it backwards so I dont have to mess with the front acc. Just wanting to do a few little things to it before I start on the chassis.

Cam and a flash will wake the Gen III stuff from what I have heard.

with the right cam, a set of comp 918 springs, and a good tune you can bump a 5.3 75hp to the tires. :****:

I have an LS6 cam/springs and custom tune on my 5.3, seems to work pretty damn good, although I think we could squeeze some more out of it if we really tried.

What is the part numbers on the the ls6 cam and springs you have? are you still running the stock truck intake?

LS1 Camshaft Specifications I have the 2002+ LS6 cam, dont have a part number for it. you can usually find them pretty easy on LS1tech or some similar website.

Of those choices the GMPP cam"s would probably be your best choices based on the tighter LSA. Gonna give you a little more bottom end than the others.

JUst to be clear, what all do I need to swap the truck intake to the LS1 intake? FYI I need the injectors and fuel rails for the LS1 intake. The truck stuff wont work. Is thei s right?

On the 02 and up LS6 cam do you have to change teh push rods to make up for the smaller cam journals? Read something that said the 02+ LS6 used a smaller journal cam or something like that.

The cam used in the '02-'04 LS6 had a smaller base circle so the valves were 0.6 mm longer to compensate for the difference. That means this cam can't be interchanged with any other cam unless all the matching components are used, too.

This is from Billvista's article on Pirate.
