I am a Toyota guy, and have always liked sticking with factory junk. I have a chance to pick up an 80's 4runner with no motor and an auto tranny/t-case:puke: .... I have, though, always kicked around the idea of putting a domestic motor into one if I got one. I was thinking of either sourcing a 4.3 or going with the obligatory 350. I would actually love to get ahold of a 383, but who has that kind of money?!

Suggestions....?

I like a couple of things about this idea. First, if I went with the 350, probably no need for regearing. No cost on that one! Would the 4.3 get away with 4.10's??? Also, I am quite a stickler on having a manual tranny in my rigs. Suggestions? I have a stock tranny and t-case from another 4runner (V6) that is actually quite tough. Free, too!

Or, if I can find one cheap enough, I might just stick with a higher miled Yota motor until I figure out just what is is I want...

Thank ahead of time!

OH, and what would one be willing to pay for a rig like this???

Josh

the 4.3 would have enough ponies, ye not worry there:; go auto:flipoff: face the music of a way better setup:D aside from an sm465, i'm not sure what manual to go with behind a 350, cus then you get into more money with figuring out what adapter to use (poss. AA which is a sh*t ton of money), but autos are a dime a dozen, VERY versatile as far as adaptability between tranny styles and the 4.3, 305, and 350...

Audrey absolutely does not want an auto in her rig. She, and I , think they are just too boring. I will not argue about which is better offroad, as I think they do have a few advantages, exept for being rendered useless as f**k on the top of a ridge, with no steering, brakes, or heat! :fawkdancesmiley:

Anyway, she wants a "fun to drive" rig. Put an automatic in the golf...:awesomework:

Thanks Aaron...

in my defense had i know more about it at the time it happened i could have drove it back down, and actually i still could have had heat so...:kissmyass: it was a lack of experience on my part and being young and dumb, and really just a freak accident that it happened to spray deer guts everywhere:haha: no, i guess i was looking at the ease of install compare to using a manual, that is all really. I personally love my auto and wouldn't change it for the world, sticks are for racing:awesomework: besides my auto has less slip that your clutch ever will:fawkdancesmiley: :haha:
