I know for a fact that I want to kill my students sometimes, but when you see them everyday you also form this bond with them. Just got a phone call this morning that one of my students, one of the good ones that everyone on campus likes, had a bad motorcycle wreck. The story goes like this. Him and a few friends have a freestyle ramp that they built and have been jumping with no problems for a few weeks. They invite him over to jump with them. He jumps a few times to get the feel of it and they think he was going to do a trick and panicked in mid flight. He comes off the bike and the bike lands on top of him. Not good, they chopper him to UAB where he spends the night in intensive care. All I know as of now is that his bottom teeth come through his lip, his nose is broke (had helmet on), and he has multiple pins in his arm is the major problems. He is talking and awake and nothing is life threatining, but they said no more football or sports. Bad deal because he is in the 10th grade and started some games this year on a team (Cordova for you local guys) that won the state championship. Everyone just keep him in your thoughts and I will see if I can get more info at the first of the week.

Sorry to hear that...you always hate to hear about some young bright kid getting hurt like that.......I will say a little prayer for him.

Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts. He is going to need it for the long road to recovery.

That sucks man... And you said I need to hit that ramp....!!!! No guts no glory...
Hope he gets up and goin soon...

wow man that sucks. Is he still going to be able-bodied? I have a friend that similar happened to doing a freestyle jump on a quad and he's paralized now from the nipples down.

Update: Broke left leg above his knee, tour muscles on right knee, busted most of his lower teeth, broke nose, and the worst is his right arm. Already had one surgery fo rpins and all in the arm and is going to have another soon. So much for a speedy recovery.

You like it loud! I only get that bike out for special occasions. :flipoff1:

Remember being young? Sometimes we didn't listen no matter what, and just had to learn for ourselves. Anything that doesn't kill ya makes you a better, errr.... more rounded individual.

Glad he's doing better, tough lesson to learn.

I don't like hearing things like this. anyone that used to ride with me knows that I deserved this and worse. I've been crushed by quads after 100' jumps, been folded in half more times than I care to remember, had a footpeg stick me in the back of the head right at the brain stem and it only tore the skin off, and on and on. I keep telling myself that I have a purpose in life if I wasn't taken or even hurt any of these times. You see guys like this kid or brian schuster here in town that are crippled because of 1 little incident. the local guy ( to me) was just night riding at the dunes, fell off, and the next guy landed on him. freak deal. now he is in a wheelchair and I have done 100x stupider stuff and have never broken more than my thumb. I don't know. It seems so senseless and unfair for a kid like that to get what he did and others can get away with it. maybe my legal troubles are where I don't "get away with it" and others do. Hard to make sense of it. I go to church to try to find deeper meaning and I am still puzzled. I really feel for the kid, even though I don't know him. I know I'm rambling, it just makes me reflect on my life thus far and where I should be going.
