Needs a freaking lift pump arg

Anybody ever replaced one of these in a 97' dodge cummins?:corn:

that's not too common on a 12 valver. They're easy though as long as you got arms that can reach it :redneck:

Is yours leaking, Sam? Or is there no fuel output? If it's cuz of a leak, be sure to check the return lines above it (right below the intake); they're a bitch, but much less expensive!:D

Its starting to get real loud and clak like a SOB

Do pull the starter it makes the job much easier. Not to tricky to do but like LUCKY said it is a bit of a reach! While you have the starter out go ahead and replace the contacts in it. They will be shot if the starter is very old. They are fairly cheap and will save much headache in the future when they weld themselves together. My lift pump was actually not bad when I replaced it but I went ahead and left it new so I wouldn't have to worry about anytime soon. I think I paid like $140 4 years ago.

12V or 24V

Also is there any other way to test these things or do you just go off the terrible noise they start making?:eeek:

Not sure about the noise, usually you would replace it if it's not up to the task anymore. And it's easy enough to check the pressure. I think mine is around 34 at idle.

I assume you have done one of these then :eeek:

Yup:D a few:haha: ....It gives ya alot more room to change it---I've done it both ways, and it does help with the starter out--Dieselbreath makes a good point, pull the solenoid cover, and the plunger out, careful not to lose the spring....change the contacts and reassemble....about a 15 minute job...
