I have found out that I have cancer. I went to my regular doctor on April 25th. I showed him where I had a tightness in my left butt cheek. He sent me that afternoon for an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed a mass 7cm (about 2-3/4"). They then scheduled a MRI at Grandview on May 3rd. The MRI confirmed the mass and I was sent to an Oncologist at Grandview. My appointment was May 11th. The doc went over with Nan, Joy and myself what the findings were. He also took 6 biopsies of the area to verify his findings. He scheduled a CT scan to document the "extent of the disease". The CT scan was done the same day. The CT scan showed possible places in the lungs and liver. This morning, I was sent to get a PET scan and got out first good news of this whole ordeal. The places in the liver and lungs did NOT show up on the PET scan. This means that chemotherepy will not be required at this time. I am scheduled to have a buttockectomy (resection of gluteus maximus) this Thursday (May 19th). This will be followed by radiation. The recovery period will be about 6 weeks. He says I will never be able to run, but will regain the ability to walk. First with a walker, then with a cane. Then get rid of that too. So, last weekend was kind on my last offroad ride for a while. Had a great time at Choccolocco Mountain with Ben Bone and Crescent. Also been working on getting everything in order to be down a little while. I have been quiet about this until we got the results of all the tests and knew what the schedule was going to be.

I hate that I've missed the opportunity to ride with you the last little bit. Even more, I hate that I missed your company. Just goes to show, you need to enjoy each day to the fullest and not take any of them for granted.

I am hopeful you will be riding soon enough. Did you get a best case timeframe from the doctor? My dad is famous for beating their best case dates and it always gave him something to do that they said couldn't be done. I guess I get a lot of that from him. I've also relearned how to walk a few times and it is a long and arduous process, but worth all the pain and therapy. The first ride back, I hope you make a quality over quantity ride and get some good folks together.

Keep your chin up, it makes the recovery from the surgeries that much easier.

"Recovery" six weeks. Not really talked about specifics. My goal is to ride the Hardline ride in August.

Sent using left thumb.

100% seriousness. If you need a driver Ms. Daisy, I'll take 38 special anywhere's you ask me. Good deal, make it 5 weeks, just to show them. I'm pulling for you and ready for this to just be a story you tell by the campfire about how you beat cancer. I'll bring the sharpies and the name tapes too.

Well, I had forgotten how terrible I was at hearing this kind of news about someone I care about.. I just can't stop thinkin bout it .. Can't wait till this is behind us mr John.. Will be thinkin and prayin for you everyday. I just know it will be ok. Holler anytime. Thanks for all you do.

You've got the recipe for a win over this, compadre. Determination, yer not a *****, and surrounded by an awful lot of folks that care about you! Just a little speedbump in this thing called life.

Thanks for the replies. I will be keeping most close friends up to date on the FaceBook group I made for this purpose. Also try to post here the main updates.

While I am not openly telling all about my condition, and realize what is posted in EasyLine stays in EasyLine. Everyone, just use your judgement and let folks know on an as needed basis. I am not asking you to go tell the world, just not asking everyone to hold it as an EasyLine secret.

Hopefully that makes since.

Damn it, I missed my calling, shoulda been a Dr. I said when I met ya you had something up your ass!!! :flipoff1: :flipoff1: :flipoff1: :flipoff1:

**** cancer while we're at it!

I hope and pray for you that its benign, and if not, can we get someone to chew your ass so hard that your other cheek matches?

I thought it was too soon to make butt jokes. I've saved a few and will attempt to wait till you are fully recovered.

Hey, I coulda said "**** cancer in the ass" but.... :butt:

If theres one thing I know about JohnG, is he doesnt do anything half assed (pun intended), and I expect thats how he'll attack this beating cancer.

JohnG, that all said. Please look into MD Anderson Cancer Center. www.mdanderson.org They are the forefront of all things cancer, like the Mayo Clinic of kicking cancers ass. Their slogan is "Making Cancer History"
They are here in Houston, if you and Nan jump to want their opinion or think their treatment may be the right place for you to come. We have two extra guest bedrooms and are 20min from the Med Center. Im sure if you come long term you'd bring the rv. But if you need anything less than the RV we got ya covered. Serious!
