Yesterday a good sized group of Houston rodders did a "Reliability Run" to Galveston Island. Basically put a bunch of miles on our junk along the coast, stopping along the way for beverages.

This was the 1st one this group has done and it was a success, no one broke down, however, I need to examine one of my u-joints before I roll again, but.....I made it home

10am Blackhorse Tavern (near Downtown Houston) departure and head south on S** towards Freeport. In Manvel, TX we picked up another handful of cars. I think total cars was 25 or so. Sorry I didn't count. In Manvel, Brad (the guy that did the organizing) asked me to lead on to Surfside, TX as apparently I'm the only one with a Speedo that has any faith in its accuracy. I replaced a guy with no speedo that actually got as low as 35mph on the freeway, and that is bad juju.
We hit a bit of rain south of Manvel and only had two hickups on the way to Surfside. The 1st was Brian Bobb in one of the chopped, slammed Model A Sedans about running a stoplight in Lake Jackson, TX in front of 2 county mounties. In the full-on brake lockup he almost got rearended by one of the other guys in our caravan, in a chevy sedan. No bueno.
The 2nd is on me. I've never been on the road we were on and missed a turn, Brad assured me on the cell that I was going the right way, I was not, we U-turned it.
Once in Surfside, the beach was awesome, and at the gas stop the local cops swung in to let their presence be known. Luckily we are all upstanding citizens so they left us alone. molaugh The local bar emptied out to look at the cars and take pics.
Continuing on up the coast towards Galveston, I saw several Public Beach Entrances, on the 3rd, it was "Right turn Clyde" and we drove a mile or so on the hardpack by the surf. There was some cool footage shot of the caravan that should surface soon. I did a hellafied powerslide in the sand throwing a huge rooster tail, and I all got caught on a dashcam. It looked badass. Cant wait to show you guys.
There is a tollbridge on the southside of Galveston Island we had to cross. Once we crossed the tollbridge we all got waved through. Killer, no toll for us!
The 1st stop we made on Galveston Island was Woodys Bar. The real reason for the stop was because Richard Daugird was running late with the craw-daddys to the final destination, so we were stalling for time.
After leaving Woodys we crusied the seawall, and did a detour through "The Strand" (historical tourist & shopping district in Galveston), talk about us setting off car alarms and making jaws drop. This hillbilly Tim in the horn'd up '53 Chevy popped the air off and drug a good distance. An old lady was heard saying "HOLY ****!"
I couldn't even tell if my truck was running the exhaust notes were so loud between the buildings. At the end of the Strand everyone did burnouts down the street, the guy in front of me was sideways, I was sideways the other direction, and the two "A's" behind me were rolling huge smoke. Wish that could havee got captured somehow.
After the Strand we hit some back streets back to the Seawall and on to the final destination beer & mudbugs, at the furthest north point on Galveston Island.

Good times had by all! I think I clocked just shy of 300 miles in the '58, WOOT!

I took a couple pics, a bunch sucked cause I was driving.

But these survived.

Mucho miles got put on this Hemi today but was worth it. He drove from Beuamont>Kerrville (drop off wife)>back to Houston>Reliability run> then was to head to Kerrville for the night. I'd say he did 900 miles yesterday!!! In a roadster!!! Hardcore old dude.

This dude Drew fits in this thing. No idea how. I've sat in it, and I cant get the door closed or the steeringwheel back on, and he's bigger than me. He reminds me alot of Louis Vition only a bit taller.

Very cool rides, that's for sure!

My few trips to Galveston were pretty fun. Once we rode as muc of the beach as possible from before that toll bridge, then crossed and on into G-ston. I got home and everything steel on my bike was rust and I had to get a new chain, sprockets, bearings. God it was a mess. Nothing lasts long down there.

My small fishtail at 3:09
but then I drifted the rear and threw up some rooster tails at 3:29
