I have a front seal that is slinging oil and believe it might be getting in the opti-spark . I don't know much about these engines so I am looking for someone to work on it and get it straightened up.... It runs good till it gets hot and hammering on it... :driving:

You situation is common one on these motors or at least more than standard small blocks. If you can not find anyone to touch it local. We will be more than happy to help you out.

I would REALLY think about selling it and putting the money towards a LS series motor. The LT1's are decent motors, but the Optispark and the old school head designs really hold them back on performance/reliability. You will fix the optispark now and I promise you that next year you will be doing the same thing again. I'm not beating you up, I'm just giving you my opinion. thumb.gif

I am planning on changing over later. I agree I will have problems again, moisture is one of the weaknesses of them. This is my first issue and oil slinging out is the big issue. EOR has it now and he is going to go over it, replace the front leaking seal and tell me what else I need to do. I would like to say that they have a very nice shop and some sweet buggie projects going on. I didn't get to spend the time I would like to as I have some family issues that has me back down in Birmingham. I plan on hanging out there a little when I go to pick it up.

So can you change an opti-spark to something else? I have seen MSD optispark that is suppose to be very heavy duty. This could be an option.

Well I know that some had distributors but think they changed over in the 93-96 year models. I could be way off as I am no motor guy. I was thinking of buying a hot cam and heads to give it a little more but I am happy with the power it puts out.

I like the LT1's power, I have one in my '95 Ram Air Trans Am. But, In my opinion the optispark design is lacking for what we do. I pressure wash my jeep engine after every ride and I would hate to worry about that every time I did. If you like the motor, and don't want to fork out a ton of time to swapping engines you can always go with a Delteq or this http://www.eficonnection.com/eficonnection/coil_per_cylinder.aspx. both are similar in design, but you can get away with $500-$600 in parts and have it more reliable. Also on another note, if you ever do just decide to replace the opti, don't waste money on the MSD or the Advance/Autozone ones. Get a Factory GM one, they have been proven over the years to last better....just my thoughts for what its worth.

I think that we got the LT1 Hot cam on the shelf at the shop. My buddy ran the cam in his LT1 before changine over to the LQ9 in his buggy. I'll look tomorrow at the shop and let you know.

I wonder how much that would cost to put in while my engine is apart?
