Need Advice On Building Winch Mount For A 85 K5

Hey guys ive been looking around for winch mount bumpers for older blazers and they all seem to be around $1500 for a good one. So im thinking of building my own. Has anyone build their own heavy duty winch mount bumper? i need advice on everything. what kind of metal to use. what dimensions i need to find out. any places that have specs on winch mount bumpers for older trucks? good places to get ideas for how i want it? i jsut want it simple and sturdy i dont need some super fancy thing. My uncle does metal fab in eastern washington so as soon as i get the dimensions, sketches, etc he can build it for me.

Depending on what kind of winch you are going to run. The mounting systems can be different. You can build your own mount out of some 1/4" steel plate that should be tied into the frame.

Take a look at some other rigs with winches. PM pullUout here on the board and ask him if he can take some close-up pictures of his mounting system. That should give you some ideas.
