Need DMAX advice

Im looking a 05 DMAX. It has a LLY. Do these have them same injector and head gasket problems as LB7's? ALso the truck has a 8" fab tech lift. Anything I should look for when looking at a lifted truck like this one? 118,xxx on the ticker if that matters

I would not get a truck lifted that high if you use it a lot for towing. Definately looks nice and I think those year trucks don't have the common injector problems of the 01-02 Trucks.
 
Ya I know the lift kills the towing ability but all I plan on pulling is my jeep on a 20' bumper pull. I would think it would do fine for that

Yeah it will be fine for that, but it hurts the versatility of the truck (loading bed with stuff, etc) and limits you to a bumper pull trailer.

I remember Wyatt had a lot of problems with his lifted truck eating suspension and steering components.
 
ya I remember that also. I would like to lower it 2" depending on what's involved
 
Towing with a lifted truck as long as its a bumper pull is no worries. You will need bags in the back and a mega dropped hitch.... But that duramax will haul the mail with a trailer behind it. I put stupid miles on Miles truck when it was mine with my bumperpull and buggy all over the country.


What you need to look for or worry about.

Pump Rub- transfer case. the pump vibrates, and the steel clip holding it breaks and rubs a hole in the magnesium case, you loose your fluid and it burns up

Front Wheel Bearings- with anything bigger than stock the GM Unit bearings self destruct. Jack the front up and grab the tire at 12 and yank it forward and back. if its got play you need bearings.

All things steering- Tierods, Pitman, Idler, Steering box. While the front is jacked up grab tire at 3&9 and jack back and forth much movement? then its got problems. Cognito is what you need. HD Tierods, and the Pitman Idler support kits. Lifted without the Cognito support you'll get 5-7k out of pitman and idler, with support kit 15-20k out of them.
If it doesnt have all the Cognito **** plan on a grand for all of it and do the Upper Control Arms while you're at it to get it back to Cadillac Smooth.
Rear Axle outer seals.

Fuel Filter housing cracks

And you have to stay ontop of the tire rotates and getting the ****er aligned. IFS will eat tires like no other. I know y'all dont have a Firestone in Paola, but $99 lifetime align and I align mine every oil change 5k.

I've owned an '02, '07, and '06 Chevy HD Duramax's

'02 was lifted 6"
'07 was turned up for 19.5"s
'06 is Cognito'd the **** out on the front for everything I learned on the others.

Run that ****. 8" is fine.
That truck is nearly the twin to my '06. Same trim and all, except I have the 6speed tranny.

I'd get a heat gun and strip the door trim (need to do my own as well) the shadow will only be visible for one summer!!! LOL
I'd trade out of those Rockstars, I hate rockstars thats just me.
And the thing needs nerf bars. Yanking on the wheel to pull yourself in will tear up the column and the sides of the seat.

8" means 37's and thats awesome for a crawler hauler. :****:
 
Dude said he has 37s and another set of 20s if I don't want the current set up, but I love rock stars so I'll prolly keep it the way it is

it may not have reached the midwest but 2008 called and they want their Rockstars back.
 
doesnt look like i got to worry about the truck anymore. I got some more pictures from him and the truck was suppose to have normal wear and tear and I didnt consider some of this normal. He was asking 22k and I offered 18500 and he didnt want it .

I found another 05 dmax, same thing as this one but grey leather and a sunroof, with 68k miles for the same price. It has a rancho 6" lift and is clean. Wheels and tires on it are :gay: but I can get the wheels and tires of my choice then
 
The miles Are not to bad . MY buddy has not had a problem with his till a few weeks ago and finally let the trans go wtih over 250k miles on it .. So i hooked him up with a nice truck that Kelly owned and he loves it know ..

Dual stacked block in rear, LOL. Where the **** are the tow hooks? And on the D-side front suspension, you see all the wheat seed caked in the oil running from the front diff??? Bawahahaaa that fugger has been rode hard and put away wet. All the grease on the upper balljoint tells me trashed and he he keeps greasing to limp it. And how about them shocks? Rusted!

$18,500? Thats way too high IMO, that dude if he had half a brain would off that bitch quick as **** at that price. Hell its got 5k in body damage alone considering its every panel. molaugh

If you want a lifted d-max truck thats never seen 4wd, search ebay/craigslist/autotrader in Dallas/Houston/Austin. Or if you dont mind the drive Arizona/Nevada/Cali just fewer are diesels out there. If its near Houston I'll go check it out for ya. Shoot even get it delivered for the price of my dads Southwest flight back home (volunteering him as usual, LOL)
 
ya your right I still offered to high. Im still looking. I want a CLEAN truck not some ragged out truck. I look on criagslist, autotrader and ebay every single day just gotta keep looking i guess.
 
ive treated offroad rigs better than that before :woot: it kills me to see people take a nice truck like that and hunt or mud ride the piss out of it and destroy it :wtflol:
