It is possible to fit 36" tires with no lift: cut the cab corners, weld in sheetmetal, and trim the fenders to fit.  If you want to change springs, factory packs seem to last longer than aftermarket sets.  Chevy 63" rear springs are popular in the back- the longer the better.  Full size Wagoneer fronts, or factory 1985 rears in the front will work good also. Try to avoid aftermarket springs with alot of arch: anything over 5" lift.  If you are going to weld suspension brackets or anything important on, DO NOT use a 110v welder- flux core sucks! Even at full power, they are not good enough. Also factory rubber bushings last longer than polyurethane.  I dont know where you live, but going to popular 4x4 areas, looking at vehicles, and talking with drivers, should help too.
