Tank traps that still hold deep water at this time of the year are likely on soil with a high clay content. Clay is comprised of very flat particles that shear easily along their margins. It's sort of like shale that you see up in the mountains, but on a much smaller scale. The plates slide quite readily on themselves and anything else really with just the smallest amount of water as a lubricant. So you probably have a bunch of clay in between the flywheel, clutch disk, and pressure plate. The best way to clean it out is to pull it all out and maybe replace the clutch disk, but it's probably ok with a good pressure washing. Or, you could crawl under there and have a buddy push your clutch pedal in and use the pressure washer from underneath, but that won't get it all. I'd pull the tranny and clutch.
