After work I picked up a new video camera.. This'll be a great lil thrasher! It's a small one like P's old camera(might be same damn model)---it shoots in HDV 1080i so quality is good enough we will be able to use it along with our big camera. Only thing that sucks is NO manual controls---which is something I live on(filters, iris, shutter speed).. Sony's new model came out so they were clearing these out for $300 off :eat:

I know a few of you had popped up with talkin about getting cameras, etc. before and Cole has learned the hard way on a few of his.... So this is just a heads up for anyone lookin for a camera this is an awesome to get into for a cheap price. HDR-HC5 is the model number at best buy---I'm sure other locations across the country are doing same thing.. turns a $999 camera into $699 :drinkers:

Rob, what would you recommend for a decent camera at about half of that price? I just want something to take some trail vids that will take a beating.

I have had great luck with Sony stuff for the past 5 years... Before that I had used Panasonic and JVD cameras--had good luck with all 3 brands. I prefer miniDV format, but if you're just wanting to post web videos with your footage a hard drive camera may be a good option. Only thing I don't like with a harddrive camera is that you HAVE to edit your footage right off the bat, and a harddrive failure could lose some very important vids. I like to archive my miniDV tapes and keep some in a fire safe. I wouldn't reccomend a DVD camera, I just dont like em--and Cole had a issue where he lost footage. I'd try and find a mini DV camera with a 3CCD chip--could be around the 400 dollar range or cheaper. Check overstock.com, sams and costco for smokin deals. You don't need HD and if you want it you'll pay for it. For a cheap beater camera that you just wanna watch your own footage on and post online standard definition is great and affordable.

Make sure it has some sort of night shot too... The Z1U that I've got doesnt have it--you'd think a 5k dolla camera would have everything--but they consider that a consumer feature. :dunno: My new one has night shot tho!

That being said for a couple hundred more the HC5 is a killer camera at a smokin' price that's why I started this thread. $700 ain't bad :drinkers:

Where do you store your movie files? On your computer? If all ya wanna do is youtube vids a harddrive cam would be great--I guess I just take so much video that I'd fill up harddrives real fast laughing1 So that's why I advised against the HDD camcorders.

Yeah like Rob said stay away from the Mini DVDs. I almost cried when I found out I lost some footage. It was an awesome trip at Morris Mountain.
I have a new Sony Camera that is HD 1080 and has a 40GB hard drive, I really like it alot. Only thing that sucks is when I upload them to my computer it takes forever and I have to convert them over so I can use Movie Maker.
I also keep all my videos on an external Hardrive. Its like 500Mb or some ****.
Model number is HDR-SR5
Just make sure you get the extended warranty.

500GB I'd imagine your external drive being... :drinkers:

I have 800 on my mac and I'm constantly filling it up and getting rid of stuff... I'm gonna add on a 1terabyte drive internal to help  Video takes up so much damn space!
