With the upcoming KOH qualifier at Rausch Creek I had to figure out something on my fuel cell. The buggy has a 3 gallon cell and that obviously will not cut it, I would be lucky to make one lap on the course. So I got the name of the local welding shop that built one right before KOH for David's buggy. They did a very nice job on his so I loaded it up and took it down to them. I already knew where I wanted to put it. I have a an area to the right of the floor pan over the 3rd link and driveshaft that I could use. What they came up with is a 12 gallon cell that slips in and hangs down between the floor pan and outer tube. It comes across my feet on the top. They built a very cool brace underneath the cell that protects it if the drive shaft breaks. I really did not lose much visibility with it. I can still see the tires fine, I just have to look around it. I will not have it in there for XRRA events, this was just built for the qualifier. If I make KOH '10 and what they come up with rule wise I will just have to figure out what I have to do from there.

Here are some crappy cell phone pics. I will get some better pics of the cell and brace and update with those later.

I am planning to build a bigger one for the badlands buggy. It has a 5 gal. summit drag cell mounted behind the seat, and the shortstar DRINKS gas. It gets about half of the fuel economy of our Campbell buggy with two more cylinders.

My plan is to utilize more space around the area where the current fuel cell is. Badlands execution of the current tank is not very efficient.

Its going to be about 100 different pieces of alum to tig together, a PITA, weird shape, and hard to install. Not having to carry a gas can on trail rides will be nice though. Hopefully new coil packs and a new MAF sensor will help the fuel economy/burning rich.

Dude, why don't you post up a thread of all your rigs. You have so many damn rides I am constantly confused! :****: :woot:

Thread hijack: I'll post up some stuff when I get back from StLouis. Class tonight and leaving afterwards to pick up E from the flight back from the Caribbean. She wants to go shopping and get lunch tomorrow in StL. 5 more hours of class tomorrow night. Don't have much going on at work today/tomorrow so I was game.

Joel: Speaking of my grad school, mind if I use your sponsor pwr point packet for a project? It will be better when I'm finished, I promise. :puke:

Knock yourself out. I have not even touched since we last talked about it. :dblthumb:

What is going on with the :gay: new rules about no alum. fuel cells? Guess I am going to have to get ATL or some other gazillion dollar fuel cell company make mine for me instead of welderin my own for less than a benjamin. >:( Theres no way to get more capacity on the buggy above without using an odd shaped custom cell. Or run a smaller motor. :puke:

Edit: I'll post up a thread re: our rides after I get back from TX in a few weeks, we have some "treasures" on the ranch.

Check pirate out in a bit. Im gonna post up about my tank buildup. Mike McClure just got through lining it with a Kevlar/ rubber lining. Enough fuel in moon buggys is a problem.

Got er posted. I've got a plan for a store bought cell if I have to do it. Its gonna look retarded, but it will fit the direction they are wanting to go. I think money is best spent on a fire suppression systen to kill all fires
