My wife's truck currently has 33x12.50x16.5 BFG All Terrains at about 90% gone. I'd like to replace her tires, but don't see many tires offered in the odd 16.5" wheel size.

It'd be about $600 for 4 tires in her current size, but I figure for about $1000 I can get her a set of decent wheels in a 'normal' size, which'll leave us with more tire options.

Thoughts?

Go with new tires and rims, it is only going to become more difficult to find tires for 16.5 rims. Supposedly Interco is going to continue to make 16.5s but I think everybody else is discontuing them. I am facing the same dilema with my superduty.

Is it a wheeler or a pavement pounder?

If it is a pavement pounder, I'd go with the wheels and tires. Something that looks good and you like.

If it is a wheeler, I'd but some cheap steelies for it in a 15 inch flavor and then you can put what tires you want on it.

Make sure they will clear your brakes though.

Yup, go w/ wheels/tires.If it is a DD, then go w/ 16x8" whls and LT285/75/r16 tires (are the closest to a 33" in the metric sizes);gonna be your most cost effective setup...most companies are discontinuing 16.5's.

Go new... I work at Firestone and we don't even have a 16.5" any more. Go 16" or 18" thats cheaper-stay away from 17" Good sizes are few and far between.

Thanks folks - This is a DD; my wife uses it to get to and from Fred Meyer and Costco. She just wants it to LOOK like a 'real' truck.

16x8 and ~33" tires fits the bill. I'm interested in having a bit skinnier tire, too, as her 12.50's seem over-kill. Are those LT285/75/r16 mentioned narrower than her current tires, too?

Yeah, the 285's are narrower; I run the BFG Muds in that size, and they measure about an inch narrower than a 12.5 of same tire; I'm really happy w/ my setup for a DD/towrig...just went out and measured mine.....tread with is 9" at widest lugs, my 31x10.5's on my jeep(BFG's also) measure approx 8.5" across widest lugs. The 285's would likely be right in between a 10.5 & 11.5 wide(maybe a little closer to 11.5)...Hope this helps!!!:D
Actually BFG has already disco'd the 35x12.5x16.5MUDt/a(according to 4whlparts),and the rest in 16.5 supposedly is not far behind...

A lot of companies make a 255/85x16R as well. They end up being a 33x10 when you convert it. With all that sidewall they havea pretty good load rating and they'll work really well in the snow on road, where you wanna cut through it to get to the pavement versus off road where you wanna float on top.

You are REALLY new at this aren't you.

New at what? If you mean "New at not-knowing the bolt pattern of my Truck" then...sure.

I'm not new at wheelin' or trucks or cars - if that's what you mean.

I learned to drive in a 77' Scout II with 6" lift. Then put about 20,000 miles on a HMMWV before swapping to cars/track days. Now, I'm interesting in re-learning my roots.

I think your bolt pattern would be 5 lug on 135mm circle. Your 16.5's would be 8 lug on 6.5" most likely. Anyway, forget 16.5 for your application. 16", 17" would be popular

I got some take off H3 wheels and tires (brand new mounted) layin around for cheap, You would have to get some wheels, the are 16" with a 6 lug pattern, metric around 32" tall. PM me if your interested.

What kind of tires? OEM?

I'm more interested in how somebody got 16.5's on a 2002 F-150? That sounds like a real oddball setup.... Pics?
