Hey guys. My rig's almost complete. I recieved my ESC last Saturday and it was the last part I was waiting for. The ESC I got was the MOPED V16R one from RC-Mart. For some reason the one I got didn't have the power wires for battery and motor hooked up to it already so I had to solder on the wires. I was able to complete that task without totally botching it.

Now to install the ESC is likely just like any other ESC. But there are some programming setup steps to perform.

The steps go like this.
With Power switch off connect the servo, and ESC plugs to the reciever
Connect the battery and with the Transmitter turned on go ahead and flip the power switch for the ESC.

Well usually the truck comes roaring to life. Steering servo goes back and forth like crazy and the motor fires up and spins the tires. But I have no control.

All of this happens right away. Now as for the programming setup I cannot get it to work. There is one button on the ESC which you press in and hold until the light on the ESC goes off. That light is not going off for me and there is nothing that is changing. I've read on RCC about other people who have had problems with their mopeds as well. One guy sent his back and got a replacement. He was experiencing the same symptoms mentioned so far.

There are a couple of other things that almost lead me to believe that it could be my reciever. After the rig calms down and stops dancing all over the place which it does occasionally if I reach out and tap the antenna wire which is wrapped around a body mount I get some kinda glitching where the rig will move a little in reverse or the steering servo will turn to the left some. Or all the way and hold.

I've tried checking to see if the plugs on the reciever are reversed. without any effect.

I've also tried swapping the crystals between the radio and reciever with the best results so far. When I turn it all on the car just continually goes in reverse but for somereason I have very slight control of the steering servo.

I've tried making adjustments with all of the settings on the radio without any change.

So..After all of that I'm just wondering which part you all would try out first. A different reciever/transmitter? or a different ESC. Anyone have either of these laying around they might part with for not too much?

-Thanx guys..

unwrap that antenna wire and straighten it out to see if that helps. try disconnecting the motor from the esc to see if you can get the steering to work then plug the motor in disconnect the steering to see if the motor works. If none of this helps at all it could be your esc. If any of it helps it is probably your radio gear or some kind of wiring problem causing the glitching.

Tom,
Rider is correct that you should disconnect the motor. That will make if much easier to deal with. Make sure that RX crystal is in the receiver, TX goes in the transmitter. With the motor unhooked, you can connect the leads from the ESC and servo, and plug in the battery. Not sure what the light on the speed control does with the Moped, but you should be able to tell something about what the ESC is doing by the LED without connecting the motor. See if the servo is doing what it should be doing. If the servo is acting normally, you should be able to go through the setup sequence on the ESC without the motor hooked up. I'm at work now, but if you are in the area and want to swing by here, I can look at it during lunch (10:00). If not, we can work out some other time when I can check it out (easier to diagnose if it's in my hands). If needed, we can use my radio and a receiver and test things one at a time to see where the problem actually is.
