So I was driving along the other day and the YJ just died.I let it sit for a minute or so and it started then died again and again................I was able to drive it on the car trailer and thats the last time it started. It's getting fuel and the coil is good(staretd the moterhome with it) ,I'm getting power to the coil when the ignition is turned on but when I turn it over no spark comes out of the coil wire that goes to the distributer. Other than it being a Jeep :redneck: any ideas??

on my chevy and ford its the ignition control module that will go bad, but they are older trucks so dont know what your setup would be

Possibly the Flywheel position sensor (not sure if that's the actual name), it's mounted in your bell housing (at the top) that's how your ignition is timed. If it's dead or possibly just unplugged you will get the symptom you describe.

When it died or dies does it just stop like you turned off the key or does it
sputter like no gas, it sounds like what my TJ did and it was the fuel pump.
For some reason after it sat for a few minutes it would restart. That's way
I wanted to know how it ran as it dies.

The jeep has a carb on it and a mechcanical fuel pump. Would it still have a crankshaft sensor? I have already replaced the coil, coil wire, and the pick up coil in the distributer. I can't seem to find a ignition module on the jeep anywhere, I tried a jumper wire from the + on the battery to the + on the coil and had no spark while turning it over also.Doe's a 87 YJ have a computer? And yes it died kinda like it ran out of gas. The jeep did this last year but fixed itself and ran great for a year.:haha:
