Noisy Hydro steering

I have the full PSC hydro setup on my rig and its noisy as hell. Anyone else have this problem ? Any idea how to stop it ?
It is on a toyota engine so I know jobless will say thats the problem. Maybe it is the problem. I need a V8 so I can't hear it over the engine.

What's making the noise, the pump?

Is the reservoir full enough to keep from sucking air?

How are the seals around the ram?

Flow shouldn't be an issue with a complete PSC system unless maybe the filter in the reservoir is plugged.

Ok when I got the rig it had everything but the pump. It still had the toyota pump so I just put a new PSC pump on it to complete the system and still getting the same noise.
As far as fluid level if I fill it past half way it comes out the overflow. It may be leaking around the fittings at the ram. I'll look closer.
It has a new filter. What will make the fluid cavitate ? I guess I need to check for leaks. Dam thing has so many its hard to tell what its all comming from.

As brad said mark--you can pull air in thru the ram seal.

Is your res the highest point in the system? You may have air trapped.

Mine is noisy too. Most people ask if I am running gear drive on my cam or a blower.

jack the front end off the ground and with the engine off turn the wheel back and forth several times also I take the cap off the resavore and check the fluid as I do this and add as needed.

The whine is cavitation. A high pressure/ high volume pump may make slightly more noise, but you said the stock pump made noise too. My saginaw PSC pump is just as quiet as stock though.

How big is the line from the res to the pump, and how long? The bigger the diameter and shorter the better. What kind of line is it, rated for high vacuum? Is the reservoir higher than the pump?

Once I fix the leaks in the lines I'll do that.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'll trace down the leaks and look all the lines over and go from there.
