With all this flooding it makes me want to go wheelin'. The back yard at my dad's place is flooded, but was a little deeper than I thought. Not wanting to get hydro-locked, I wussed out. :looser:

So... as a noob to the sport, what do I need to do to my '79 Bronco to lessen any damage from playin' in the water? Mainly I will be putting around in mudholes, but they were pretty deep at the power lines last time I was out there.

Talking with friends, they suggested looking at the following:
  • Snorkle
  • Dif and Tranny vents
  • ignition

What is some good tech tips for these areas? (Right now my truck is mostly stock and I am using stock distributor) Any area being overlooked? Where should one run the vent tubes too?

Mount your breathers for your diffs and such high on your firewall or inside of your cab. Carry a can of WD-40 for your distributor it repels water pretty good if it gets in there. Go slow to not hose everything under the hood with water and keep the rpms up so it doesnt back track up your exhaust killing your motor. I'm probably missing a few other things but so far has worked for me.

Make sure your snorkel set-up is water tight. Get a good oil dipstick that locks. They have rubber seals. Seal the distributor as best as possible. Buy lifetime warranty alt/starter/water pump. :redneck:

jest lift it reel tall and git sum big ol swumpers under it. thatl keep der motar out of that water. them diffs dont need nuttin, you aint goin fast enuff to need geerlube:beer:

Don't run a flex fan.... or stock up on radiators :D

Vents on everything routed to a "safe" place, and change your lubes often. Steady but not too fast, but not too slow. If your going to get REAL deep, you'll need to look at protecting your air intake (i.e. snorkel, reroute intake etc)

I was reading an article in petersens awhile back, they mentioned to do that, they also said if you take some bubble wrap and ziptie that around the dist. helps alot...
