I was pulling out of the fred meyer's yesterday, and my nice welded Dana 35 went SNAP!

of course this is 4 days before trailjam... so I took her apart, and it won't come out, it looks like the wheel bearing is rusted. To make matters worse I have two spare dana 30s that are c-clip models, so no good there either!

But then I counted the rings... 39... and the pinion 11. hmm that sounds like 3.54.. oh ****, thats the same as the 'rare' Dana 44 XJ Axle! I wonder if anyone in the NW is selling one of those....

CL.. 'dana 35 cherokee' -- whatcha know. there was one. 5 hours later at 3am, I have myself a Dana 44. If anyone has a 35 in their cherokee its probably the easiest and cheapest axle swap I ever did. And you don't even get diff oil everywhere! :redneck:

Now I just need to find a locker for her....

:D I'm gonna chaulk this thread up to you being dillusional at 3 am, as I pretty much didn't understand a thing, other than you got the 44 in...:fawkdancesmiley::fawkdancesmiley: I take it he had the yoke parts/ ubolts????

I wonder if welded it had anything to do with you not being able to take it apart? :awesomework:

Yah, with it welded those axles were not going to come out. I guess my buddy didn't think of that when he decided to weld it! :eeek:

mini spool for the 44 is cheap....or if that 1 of the aluminim center cection rear I have a trac loc for it. cheep cheep

I sence some april fools in this thread. Or a mild case of retardation.

Now that you posted, yes. :haha:

Japerry, You're running 3.54's?:eeek:

I'll check but i might have a set of 4.56s for the front HP30 and for the LP dana 44.....:stirpot::stirpot::stirpot::corn: not that i'm trying to get rid of things...:redneck::haha:

Yah the 3.54s are interesting with the 4.0 ... got a locker with 'em? :D I might be interested.. the gearing on it SUCKS right now!

no locker, used to have a spool and lock-rite for them, I could JB weld a carrier for ya! :redneck: it'll hold up right nicely me thinks!:haha:

If your going to re-gear, go ahead and spend the $$ and get a Detroit for the rear (look around, score yourself a deal on a used one).

If your going to stick with the gears you have (for right now), like was said above, mini-spool is pretty cheap, and quick.

You could probably have it swapped in there in less than 2 hours start to finish, and mines held up in the back of one of my wheeling rigs much better than I expected. Welding might be a "little" quicker, but definitely cheaper.

You *might* need to lop like an 1/8" off the ends of the axle shafts when you go with the mini. I did, but I couldn't tell you if that was a fluke or something else. Cutting disc on a grinder made short work of that.

There are like elevendy dana 35's at the pull a part in Arlington. There is also a dana 44 in a Honda Passport that will go in a jeep with little effort.
