I'm just getting into rock crawling and bought a CJ-7 with a 5.7 small block Chevy motor. I'm concerned about maintaining oil pressure when crawling. My cousin blew a motor when he got stuck at a hard angle for an extended period of time and the motor wasn't getting enough oil. Is there something I can do to the jeep to make sure this doesn't happen to me?

There are all kinds of baffled oil pans that can help with this issue, but the main thing is, DO NOT go crawling with a engine that is low on oil. I always over fill mine a 1/2 half quart jic... Also, if you are on an incline, keep your rpms above idle when ever possible to keep the front bearings as lubricated as possible

Thanks for the advice! Is there any particular brand or type that y'all have had good luck with or any that I should steer clear of?

Excellent. Mudds right. I was gonna say overfill all your fluids and check em before every trip. Get on the summit website and look at what they have. Run some good rotella 15-40 and rock on

i agree I over fill my big block by half a qt and run cat or mobil 15w40 but mainly cause I happen to have a good bit of it. I do add lucas though everytime I change it just to help out

Man I`ve ran a 5.7 vortec since 2008 and beat the hell outta it. running on its side many many times. Hell the Yukon had 230,000 miles on it when I got it and striped it out. Unless your running one that's built with a little money in it I`d say run that basterd. There a dime a dozen. Now if your talking one you`ve got some money in performance wise then yes that would make since.

Here is my plan of action with motors 15w40 rotella 1/2-1 quart overfilled run it like that until it developes a slight knock at start up then start adding a quart I Lucas then when it really starts to knock go to straight Lucas at that point you can beat on it like it owes you money
