Ok Boys, gasoline is out, what diesel is the one?

I already know what I am going to get--but I will let those who are much better educated in this area to yap. There are a # of guys here who really know there ****....

What features are you looking for in a truck other then it must be diesel? List your priorities and see what truck fits the bill.

i got a 94 dodge diesel, 5 speed bombed a bit. as of right now a week on a full tank 129 miles on the tripmeter and still above 3/4 tank. I like seeing that smoke screen. I say early dodge(89-93) is the best cheap tow rig out there, Just try to get a later model thats intercooled.

Whatever you get I would say to get a manual. I had 2 PSD's and the auto didn't last 6 months from when I got it. On the 6 spd I had to upgrade the clutch because the stocker wouldn't hold with it fueled up. I went with a LUK clutch and never had another problem.

I know a lot of guys with PSD's and every one of them with an auto that adds power to their motor eats them regularly. I've heard there are upgrades you can do to make them last longer but I'd rather just get a manual and be done.

I have a 2000 7.3l PSD it had 97,000 when I bought it and now it has 179,000 with the same tranny. I am a regular at the cadman highrock querry and they like to load the truck up. But I like to change the tranny fluid almost as often as the engine oil.

I have an edge programmer but I run stock settings most of the time. I like that I can get almost 500 mile on a tank.

About 99% of all auto tranny failures are heat related. Get a gage and watch it then you won't have that problem. Some are better than others but this goes for all auto's.:;

Stay away from the Dodge with teh VP44. I had a 99 Ram with a cummins in it. LOVED it until the Injection pump went, floowed right aftger with a tranny.

I am looking at getting a new Mega Cab Cummins.
