I am looking for a Willy's Jeep tub with a tail gate like my old 1961 Willy's Jeep.

I over heard some guys talking at lunch the other day about this high school kid who had been given an old Jeep by his dad, but that the Jeep had recently been damaged in a storm. As the guys talked more about the boy and his Jeep I learned that the boys dad had suffered a heart attack last year and died in the field while loading hay on a flat bed truck. I also learned that several other boys from his high school had asked some local body shops for assistance, but non were willing to donate their time or supplies. I turned around and introduced myself and told them I could not help but to over hear their conversation and that I wanted to talk about this buddy and his Jeep more. I had already began to think in my mind about a benefit ride like we did for Peck to help raise the money for him to get his dads Jeep back together.

After talking to these guys and getting more of the story, we went out to the old run down farm house where the boy lived with his mom and grandparents to see the Jeep. The Jeep did not look that bad until I got around to the side of it in the barn. The CJ-5 Tub now has two u-shaped openings in the sides. Perfectly across the fenderwells. I did not see any damage to the frame or suspension parts and it did not have a roll bar, seats or anything else in the back to get damaged. I knew why I was there as soon as the the boy came out to greet me and his friends. Picture a cheerful, short and mildly over weight 17 year old boy with a slight touch of down syndrome. That is the boy who owns this old beater jeep. I stayed on and talked to that young man and his friends for several hours before loading up to come home. Before I drove off though, I promised that young man that I would find him a good tub for his Jeep and that I would change everything over for him and repaint it some time this winter. I have also promised to take him rock crawling as soon as I get my buggy done.
ANY HELP WITH FINDING A TUB AND TOP CHEAP WOULD BE GREAT

Bob, your a helluva man!!! call me tomorrow and remind me and i will go check on one for you in marietta

Awesome Steve. That will be a big help. I have a customer that e-mailed me a few minutes ago and said their company want to be a silent donor for a new soft top when the project is done.

Hey Bob, hit up highrange on here . He has a few of these old jeeps and usaully fall over more than most of us see. And let us know when you are having the ride. I'll be there for it.

Great find Bob, other than the tub, what else was damaged on the jeep? Does it need any other parts or work to be done? What area does he live in? :dunno:

Thanks for the info guys. As of this morning I have everything needed except for the tub. I have even been given a set of high back bucket seats. roll bar with shoulder harness seat belts and console. The hood, windshield frame, fenders and grill are all in good shape along with the dash assembly. Once I get the tub I plan to have it media blasted inside and out so the underside of the body will be as smooth as the outside. The rest of the Jeep will stay stock with no lift for obvious safety concerns. With the pieces to this puzzle coming together so quickly I do not see the need for a ride.

I do have another project that I would really enjoy seeing everyone come together and help out with. There is a volunteer fire and rescue department just a few miles from the park. These men and women always come to the park for our events and have been of great help on more than one occasion. They are the BLACK CREEK FIRE DEPT. I have heard them express the need for a Rhino type UTV that could be used for a injured persons extractor on the mountain. This machine would be beneficial for all types of rescues from missing persons to injured hunters as well as injured competitors at our events and others. They have a Kabota with a small water tank mounted on the rear that they use to combat forest fires, but the belly clearance is extremely low making it difficult to get around in the woods with. Any thoughts that you may have about the best way to get them a used UTV for this cause would be welcomed.

Greg, he lives in GA south of Palmetto.

Bob don't know if a Kawasaki Mule would be good for them but a guy I work with bought one from Brasfield and Gorrie equipment rental last year for $1,500.00 that was a very nice unit. I know that is still money but was a heck of a buy in my opinion.

As some of you know I teach welding in Walker Co and we are always trying to find projects like this to help out with. If any welding, rollbars, floorpans, ir anything else that we can help needs to be done let me know and we will do our best to help.

It would be great if we could help the boy out and get him back in the seat, and I know my students would like it since they all mostly love offroading.

Awesome. Depending on the condition of the tub I find, I may call the favor in for some mild panel patching. I really don't see this little Jeep going to the woods. If anything it will make local runs on rural roads and out around the farm. I have a Mojave heater on the shelf like I used in my old Willy's that I plan to put in it for him with a defrost duct and I think one of the local audio shops is going to put together a CD stereo system for so decent sounding tunes.

Just WOW BOB!

All I know is I am more then willing to help during a WOT (wrench-o-thon) for doing some of the work! :****:

I'll see what I can do. Bob I'll PM you too. I have a buddy @ OMIX-ADA who may be able to help. I'll introduce you to him.
