Is it highly hick/hillybilly/redneck/whiskey tango/white trash/kelly kaiser/bumpkin/yokel/country cracker/Bubba/Jim Bob to mount rear facing seats in a buggy?

I think I've answered my own question, but I'm looking for opinions.

At some time in the not too distant future I will be adding seats in the back of mine so that the boy can go wheeling with me. Or the wife and boy can go wheeling with me. If we get the nod to compete in KOH, it will be post February. If not it will be after the XRRA season.

Of note, I am not looking to fit adults in the back. I'm talking 1-4 year olds.

I can fit damn near anything if I run the seats rear facing.....
My chassis is 43" wide behind my rear firewall, and tapers hard down to 36" at my airshock mounts.

PRP makes custom benches starting at 34" and Mastercraft starts at 36". Neither will fit in the forward facing position due to depth of the bottom cushion area. The 34" PRP would possibly fit forward facing if I order it with a 3" shorter bottom cushion(which they offer). If I run the bench rear facing I can fit a 40" bench if I wanted. But is that trashy? I.E. hurt the looks, and thus the value?

Currently I can fit 2 forward facing PRP Preemy Seats

PRP Preemy Seat(Kids 1 - 4 years old)
- 22" Tall X 17" Wide X 20" Deep (view seat dimension guide)
- Mounting Area: 10" Wide X 11" Front to Back
- Slotted for 5 point harness

Or if I run rear facing can mount a larger bench style, meaning I could run a Mastercraft. Does Mastercraft make kids seats? I called them on Thursday about bench dimensions but didn't think about prememy seats until I saw the PRP's.

PRP Standard Bench
- 24" Tall X 26" Deep (view seat dimension guide)
- Benches available in custom widths from 34" to 72"
- Mounting Area: 18" Front to Back
Option: 3" short bottom cushion

I'm basically trying to fit seats for 2 kids and avoid stretching my chassis. :dunno: And yes I will be doing some new rear tubework, and fuel cell to make all this happen.

Thanks for the feedback everyonte.

Go ride in a rear facing seat on a golf cart on a gravel road and that will answer your question for you. Facing backwards in moton is terrible. If you want Jr to enjoy, face the seat forward.

OK....why not a 3 seater? Just one premie in the middle facing forward. :indianajones:

That is exactly what I was thinking, but needed the reality check.

I thought about the 3 seater approach. And wife is totally cool with that, we probably wont have #2 until this one is 3y.o, and I just dont see me owning this buggy that long. I grow tired of ****, and will sell and move on is my guess....

I'm thinking the only true solution is the preemy forward facing. My kid already has spit up issues, last thing I need is him yacking on the trail.

Another comment.

Unless yours is a 'wheeling family' whick it sounds like it is not, dont make your rig's primary purpose a kid hauler.

I did that once....I built something that was too wide, too long and too heavy for the primary wheeling I like to do.

That is why I went with a TC 4-seater this time. It is basically the same vehicle as their comp rigs, only 4'' wider and 4'' longer. I can live with that as I will be family wheeling about 10% of the time.

Just do the single PRP premie seat. I know guys that use those seats till their kids are 70 pounds.

Wife has never been on the trail. I took her on quads to the dunes at Little Sahara State Park in Waynoka, Oklahoma once. Yeah cause she wanted to go since thats what "we" all did at that time. She hated it, she hated camping, she hated it.

I do not plan on making my rig comfortable for her, but do want a kid seat for the boy, West is 10 months old, and I expect to start bringing him along next spring.
Nolen you are dead on, on the modifying the rig. I had wanted to move it to 104-106" and make a full backseat, etc.... Forget that, I'm going to make it fit a kid back there and go from that. Odds are it will just be me solo anyway.

**** I should just have a single seater anyway. God knows competing I dont need to be hauling Kelly's fat ass around.

I take offense to the part in the first post where you grouped me with all the white trash and hillbilly names. Fat ass I can deal with. I was told this weekend that I surprised someone by being fairly articulate and so forth (IE, not throwing feces). I just grew up on a farm, that's all :flipgotcha:
On the seat. I say make it enough room to put a mid sized seat in there, then put the premey in. I think mines' going 3 seater, Rob too. single forward facing bucket in the rear where knees will fit between the x bar or right up to it.

hahahaha so you read it all, nice! And you've graduated from feces throwing, thats another plus, congrats ;D

Mine will never be able to fit an adult ,or midsized without a stretch job. Just no way around it. 100"wb is just plain short. I can fit two forward facing preemy's. And I think thats how I'm going to rock it. Or maybe 1 premeey, and a cooler.

Yep I'll be doing the same w/ a walkthru... JRich's ghey taco gave me some good i-deers. I'm considering the 36" corbeau vinyl seat but trying to lay my rig out with fuel cell, CO2 tank and a cooler. Chop time starts this weekend so we'll see thumb.gif

....**** the only reason I'd go 36" seat is to fit a buddy and 2 hot chicks but we know that ****'ll never pan out so might as well be 3 buckets laughing1
