Pac Brake Broke

Ok, so we had our maiden voyage trailering the Jeep. On the way home we were using the Pac Brake, & it decided it didn't want to turn off. At all. Like, even when we flipped the switch off, the fawker was still goin'. So we pull over, turn the truck off. Turn the truck back on, the damn thing is still on (hiss hiss hiss). I finally pop the hood (it's cold and raining), wait a couple of seconds, and the thing finally turns off.

Now, before, we noticed that when we'd use it, it would stick for like a two or three count when we'd step back on the accellorator (still hissing, no real accelleration).

Any comments? Any suggestions, before I bend over and take the thing in?

Alot of the time the vacume/air solenoid gets gummed up... Follow the vacume lines back, and they should meet at a little air switch, that "should" have a little button on the front of it... On that face, there should be 4 little screws... Unscrew that and pull out the in-sides... Their really little parts, so be careful and don't loose them... There should be a little shaft that you pull out, along with some springs and washers i believe (its been a while)... Take some brake clean and some emery cloth and just clean it off the shaft... Reassemble with some WD-40 or your flavor of lube and run it... If that doesn't fix it you probably have a problem on the brake itself....

Now that i think about it, the PAC's solenoid/air switch might be set up a little different, but this is how pretty much all BD brakes are set-up and i can't for the life of me think PAC is that different... So give that a try!

And at most you could probably call PAC or your favorite flavor of diesel shop and just order up a new solenoid...
