ok, so as many of you know, i come from IFS land.....

well, i need to make a set of panhard bars for the rig.......

am i correct in thinking that if i maintain the width of the mounting points to the links in the panhards, i will be golden?

i have read wikipedia, and some random links i found.....

most of them for hot rods and lowered track cars.....and the like.
anyways, i cannot find anything on 4x4 panhards....

i understand it's about roll center and such, but the perameters that are given for cars that are not moving up and down more than a couple of inches is gonna be way different for something that moves a foot or so.....

yep, i'm a noob:looser:
any help would be appreciated..cheers, brian

A better description of your current suspension, and an idea of what it is you are trying to accomplish by adding a "set" of panhard bars, would make it a lot easier to give you advice.

duh.....

right , right...suzuki axles, one link setup.front is about 59 inches from center of axle to center of joint....
and rear is about 46 inches from center of joint to center of axle.

i need to locate the axles .....i have 12" air shocks for the front, and 14"air shocks for the rear.

here is a mock up of the front....the only difference now is, that the link is mounted on top of the axle......

most of the setups like this i have seen on pirate utilize coil springs to locate and dampen the axle.
there is a video of a sammi in the video section that shows one of these suspension setups..but his is a little squirrelly....:haha:

i also made a diagram last night on the workbench, it showed me that the arc of movement in between 12" of travel would only deflect bout 3/4's of an inch if the total overall length of the bar was 29.5 inches center heim to center heim(which happens to be within a half of an inch of the width of my mounting surfaces on the axle(spring pads)

and the "panhard" bar i used to mock it up with has 3/4 heims on it, so it is slightly adjustable..(don't know if that is a good thing , or a bad thing)it was just something laying around from previous crap a friend had built.....happened to be the right-ish width.....
....cheers, brian

Looks like there may be some driveline interferance?
the plan is to french in some carrier bearings/pillow blocks...at the center of the frame....width wise......
but thats a whole other talkshow:D........cheers, brian

You might want to think about ditching the mono link, before worrying too much about the panhard bar. That looks kinda scary.

Whats with the U bolt and the 2x2 :scratchhead:are deciding to run transfercase on top of the crossmembers or notchen it out with a hoop .don't know were ur panhard bar gonna set without springs installed...looks like some more brainstorming always fun....

to answer your quesiton, the biggest thing to be aware of in doing a pan hard,
is to keep in parallel with the drag link. and both of them as flat as you can get it.
you can't make you drag link and pan hard the same lenght, just can't happen. But you do want to keep them as close in length as possible. but don't have a 1 foot drag link, and a 4 foot pan hard.. etc..
you gotta alot of work ahead of you, and what will work on other rigs won't work on yours.

so, keep those things in mind and have at her.

well, she won't have a drag link anyway(hydro steering).....thanks for the answer.cheers:awesomework:

..Clarkw...umm, i am sure that the first time somebody got full articulation out of a 4-link, they were scared too...:haha:but with limiters, and air shocks i am certain it will be tons better than the video.....

and yeah, it is pretty much old as the hills. i read a few places on pirate abouta guy doin it to an xrra comp buggy....using the same ballistic joints i have for mine....they did well supposedly.

it is more of an engineering project than anything else, and it is different.i am not fancy enough to need adjustment, (4 link), and just want to build something different.i have been reading on here, and pirate for a few years now(i know , i'm a loser)the whole time gathering parts...some used , some new, some broken , some blue:haha::eeek:

i need something to cut my teeth on, and i figureed i would go further with what i know, and try some things that i have a heavy interest in learning.(suspension dynamics)

hence the questions about everything i am unsure about..

cheers, brian

the 2x2 is the link itself, it will rest on TOP of the axle permanently.the driveline will go "through" the two trans mounts that look like a goal post, frnched into the frame.

no springs, fox air shocks.cheers, brian
