on my tow rig 96 suburban i have been having issues with it getting it to come out of park. you have to have the foot on the brake and im assuming there is a pressure sensor that senses the pedal pressure so it releases the lever so you can drive...

well that part is failing i believe. there are times i can put the pedal through the floor and that bitch aint coming out of park. it is getting worse and worse. i am getting very frustrated so i guess its time to fix it.

so my question is what to do? where would i even start to look?

can i just bypass this function?

any guidance would be appreciated.

im sure there are wires involved and i hate wires.

where is it located? in the steering column? or under the hood by the abs crap?

In the steering column.... Or the brake switch could be acting up also. Its a simple system..

well the brake light switch seems to work ok as my trailer brakes are associated with that and everything there seems to work fine.

so can this be bypassed easily?
like stick a safety pin through the right two wires?

power into the brake light switch on a light green wire. Switched power out on a dk green wire with a wht tracer to the shift interlock selenoid.

pull the cover under the coluum and look at the interlock selenoid. see if you have power at the dk grn/wht wire with the brake pedal depressed. if not, replace the stop switch. if you do, replace the selenoid assy. (of note, make sure the ground to the selenoid is good. It attaches on the left side of the inst panel below fuse block.)

thanks gary actually the ground wire sounds like it could be the culprit. ill look into troubleshooting it tonight.

mike i think i tried that bypass method but ill try it again when i try to go home today. yesterday it took at least 15 minutes before i could get the stupid thing out of park.
