want to build a 14 bolt front and use my 300m shafts i have for my current chevy lp 60. anybody know how much of a difference there would be in pinion location vs stock lp chevy? obviously i would want to keep the width the same, how close would the inner C be to the 14 center section?

figured somebody on here would know before i dig out a measuring stick and try to do the math myself

also, any pics of a 14 bolt built the same way i'm wanting would be awesome!

found this one on pirate built by hazardous concepts. it was built for 70.5 wms to wms and sounds like the chunk was possibly pushed towards the one side for clearance in the rocks

I went from a LP 60 to a 14 bolt EOR did all the work. Here is a few pics.

duncan - are your shafts the same lengths as stock chevy? i'm gonna run some crane inner c's i don't think they are as wide at the axle tube as the eor knuckles. so that would give me more tube to work with, if your's is setup like i'm talking about.

i'm sure i saw the crawl mag, but i'll have to do some dig'n to figure out which issue and if i have it.

I'd build a 14b front in a heartbeat if I could figure out an affordable way to reuse all the 60 shafts I've accumulated over the years…. other than welding 60 spider gears into a 14b carrier what locker options are there for using 35 spline 60 shafts for a 14b front?

40spline.com is making 30, 35, and 40 spline spools for the 14b

ARB,

Or a 35 spline spool

I'm surprised no one has came out with a cheap mini spool for the 14b in 35 spline.

That said, I wouldn't think twice about welding up a "spider gear ball" with D60 side gears in it. It would work fine

mini spool is not the problem its the stock carrier is junk will not hold much hp 40spline guy has the right plan with 35 spline

The stock carriers where the bearings ride always wear on one side, after a little run time and a few beatings the bearing will fall right off. That and the pilot bearings explode sometimes, but you can fix that with a good bushing.

I don't know if 40spline.com already has plans for this or not but it is possible to offset the splines inside a spool to accommodate preset shaft lengths. It would be cool if they made a 35-spline spool with offset splines to put the 14-bolt pinion right where the 60 pinion was using stock length 60 shafts if the offset was not too much. I don't know what that offset would be.

It should be possible, I received a 35 spline spool for a Ford 9" that has splines on the outside near the carrier bearing on one side then they were in set in about 2 inches on the other side. I have no idea what application it was for but it did not work for my axle. I think you may only gain up to four inches but that might be enough to use the common Dana 60 axle shafts.

True, but I still figured someone would have made one, or a 35 spline Detroit/Grizzly locker

got the 35 spline spool lined out, just gotta make sure the pinion location will work with my buggy

Cool :dblthumb:

It would be a major undertaking on my buggy to swap to a 14 bolt in place of my low pinion D60. I would have to put the C almost touching the center section and get custom inner axles made. I would still loose my one piece drive shaft and possibly have to swap oil pans. It would probably be easier for me to put D80 gears and load bolts in a D70 housing.

We will have you covered. We plan to offer our 14 bolt spools with the 35 spline option for the very reason you just stated.
