What are you guys thoughts on this? I can get it done for free at work. I would like to do my tranny xfer cases and whatever else I can get there. Would this hurt them in anyway ie keeping to much heat in? Also if I were to do this could I assemble the whole thing then powder coat it or do i need to do the bare cases? Would it hurt the seals or anything like that? I oven runs at 400 degrees. Thanks for the input.

I would not do alum. It reacts funy with heat..

got a spare tranny case laying around? if its FREE then do some R&D of a old one first. I have seen aluminum intakes polished and then clear powder coated. are you gonna do some cool colors for added bling factor?

Yeah it will hurt the seals.

We had a guy here at work powdercoat a ford 9 inch rear end that was fully assembled. The shop reeked of burnt gear oil for months. It took out all the axle seals on it and the lube leaked into the oven. :puke:

We powder coat aluminum all the time for work, the transfer cases have been fully torn down cleaned and dried in a parts washer so there is no oil whatso ever in or on them there bare and clean. I dont have a case to try it with just the fact that we do aluminum all the time. i just wanted to do it while it was all together to save on prep time. We do have some nice colors to go with. I was thinking a nice red.

Do it. You want to paint just the bare cases no seals etc. We do tranny's and stuff all the time at my family's shop. It works great for anything not prone to rock rash 9 and then it only gets scratched up) and takes just a pressure washer to clean up.

I did my whole engine block years ago in my show car. Still looks good other than fading around the exhaust ports on the heads. I did run into issues though with the powdercoated aluminum intake getting the carb to hot and had to run a spacer. This could have been more due to the heavily bored motor casuing to much heat because we've done alot of intakes with no issues.

(parts were painted after cleaning but prior to machining etc)

My ftoy is getting stripped down and alot of powerdoated parts this year, not so sure yet on doing the tube work since it needs to be readily touched up.

Thanks so far guys. Here is what im goin to do. Im goin to take the bare cases no internals or seals bolt them all together coat em and take them apart then assemble them. Least that seams like a good idea.
