I pulled the power-lok out of my '78 waggy D44 to replace the clutch pack. after I R&R'd the clutches I've found that the side gears do not align to allow the axles to be installed. There's and internal spider gear + the side gear that must align for the axle to be inserted, these don't align on one side after tightenng the case bolts

I've tried to setup the P/L on the bench with the axles installed, after tightening the case down the axles are bound

Anyone familiar with P/L's that can offer some advise?

As you tighten the case wiggle the axle shafts. It is easier to have a set of cut axle end. less weight to force the side gears out of alignement. You can also set the case to where the axle shafts are verticle then tighten the case up. Its tough, keep working at it.

Yes, I did the setup vertically by putting the long side in the vise, then the P/L on that to setup. I'll try the wiggle trick tonight, unfortunately I don't have a set of cut axle ends, I do have it setup though to alleviate as much of the axle weight possible...thanks for your feedback

For inquiring minds...

...the spider gears required a slight adjustment with a BIG screwdriver

Yes, got a little frustrating but it's together...to simple I guess

Are you coming over with the BEST group this weekend?

I am going up to Reiter Saturday and if I can sell my body for some diesel I might go over to Tanner flats area on Sunday.
